I hope the rematch clause was iron-clad because if not Ruiz is going to be pulled away to fight someone else.
Best way to get them belts back is to let Ruiz lose them to someone else first. I just can't see how he beats Ruiz, he's a stylistic nightmare. I wouldn't be surprised if they don't really want it
After listening to some of the post fight press conference I'm not thoroughly convinced Joshua Is real excited at the thought of re matching Ruiz. His response was "If Ruiz wants it" That is an unusual comment coming from a guy that just lost for the first time in his career.
Joshua/Hearn/Matchroom/DAZN have to push real hard for the rematch, otherwise I would expect Haymon to pay Ortiz some step-aside money so they can offer Ruiz a unification fight with the plan that Wilder ends up with all the belts....
Man i knew AJ was soft but this is just unbelievable and taking it to a new level. Contrast this to how Lennox Lewis was behaving after the Rahman 1 fight
There was no rematch clause for Tyson Douglas. Douglas then decided to fight Holyfield for a career high payday and then balooned in weight, depression and stayed away from boxing for 6 years. He was not interested in the Tyson rematch
Have lost a lot of respect for AJ in the last 24 hours. Weak chin, quits in the ring and now doesn't want to immediately rematch an opponent who took his belts and manhood from him?
AJ knows he got beat down, not by luck, by a good, thorough, undisputed beat down. Had AJ lost by some luck punch, of course he would be shaking his head and vocal in calling for a rematch. But he got beat the **** up by a smaller man.
One can criticize Lewis's chin compared to Holyfield, Tyson but he showed tremendous heart, character and self belief and knew he was never going to get Ko'd like that again. Rahman wanted to fight Tyson next but Lewis took him to court to drag him back in the ring and the rest is history. AJ is a complete disgrace.
It is a shock and not a response you would expect from a fighter who many considered one of the top three fighters in the heavyweight division. Joshua may need to re evaluate where he is at career wise and whether he wants to continue fighting.
Indeed, this is not a sport for softies. I find it funny he was criticizing Fury's performance against Wlad i.e. he didn't engage in a punch fest or that he would knock Wilder out with one shot. Wrong, Wilder will knock AJ out with one shot.
