I guess in Hagler's case you could arrive at 10-0-1 (9) if you omitted the rubber matches and didn't count them among his rematches...even though rubber matches ARE rematches...but that still doesn't explain Louis, who never fought a rubber match. (the only real opportunity would've been with Schmeling and the KO1 left a pretty decisive edge in that rivalry :smoke)

So actually Marvin has a better record in rematches numerically - slightly - and SOME good quality names, but lots of trash. Even the likes of Ramage are much better than some of the bums Hagler fought again for some reason, and he doesn't have a Schmeling to balance things out. Plus a couple of his were avenging defeats, as opposed to just one for Joe.

I'm gonna stick with Louis > Hagler. :think

    Leonard only fought three rematches.

    Durán II - WTKO8
    Hearns II - D12
    Durán III - WUD12

Solid results, but too few to be considered rematch GOAT or even close to it.

(besides, many regard one as having been a gift decision for SRL, which leaves him with just two rematch victories both over the same guy)

    SRR was 35-4-2 in rematches.

But i cant count, so maybe its better if someone re-checks those stats..

    Izzy V:

    5-2 (3)

    Saul Briseno - TD8.
Eddy Saenz - KO2 in the rematch.
    Oscar Larios - LTKO12, WTKO3.
    Rafael Marquez - WTKO6, WSD12, LKO3.*

(that fourth one doesn't count, as far as I'm concerned. :bart)

I tried to think of some other notable recent rematch participants, and by and large they haven't done so well. Of the first four names to pop in my head, you'd be surprised which has the best record...

    Felix Sturm

    2-1

Javier Castillejo - WUD12 in the rematch.
Randy Griffin - WUD12 in the rematch.
Sam Soliman - LUD12 in the rematch.
Fedor Chudinov - ? (happens tomorrow)

    Robert Stieglitz:

    2-3 (2)

Laszlo Dolgos - WTKO3 in the rematch.
Alejandro Berrio - LTOK3 in the rematch.
Arthur Abraham - WTKO4 in the rematch, LSD12 in the rubber match, LTKO6 in the fourth.

    ODLH:

    1-1 (1)

Julio Cesar Chavez Sr. - WRTD8 in the rematch.
Shane Mosley - LUD12 in the rematch.

    Mayorga:

    6-1 (4)

Miguel Angel Perez - WTKO3 in the rematch.
German Espinales - WKO4 in the rematch.
Henry Castillo - WTKO7 in the rematch. (avenging defeat)
Walter Palacios - WUD10 in the rematch.
Andrew Lewis - WTKO5 in the rematch.
Vernon Forrest - WMD12 in the rematch.
Shane Mosley - LKO6 in the rematch.

...and that MD12 over Forrest is maybe the best result of any listed above.

I can see that, the temperament of these boxers, not so much Kessler (He's like the nicest guy ever).

    I guess you're more of a boxer-puncher type guy

    Sergio Gabriel Martinez:

    8-0 (3)

Mario Nieva - WUD6 in the rematch.
Silvio Walter Rojas- WUD10 in the rematch.
Paulo Alejandro Sanchez - WUD10 in the rematch.
Javier Alejandro Blanco - WUD10 in the rematch.
Alvaro Moreno Gamboa - WKO2 in the rematch.
Vasile Surcica - WUD12 in the rematch.
Richard Williams - WTKO9 in the rematch.
Paul Williams - WKO2 in the rematch.

Shame he never had a rematch with Margarito around 2007-2009, as he would have avenged his first defeat and picked up a ninth rematch W (adding some more legit quality along with the one against PTP)

Kessler is a total gent, but watch his early career, he was seek & destroy - if he smelled blood in the water you were done. :deal

It's such a pity that no one knows about the two Martinez/Richard Williams matches, they're almost as good as the first Paul Williams match.

Yup, I loved the Andrade performance myself (Although it wasn't THAT EARLY), the accuracy was top notch that fight. Think he landed around 40% overall and around 50% power. Brilliant this fight imo.

Kessler is one of my favourites.

I always wished that fight would have happened as well.

Incidentally, any idea how someone like Greb fared in rematches? It may be impossible to figure out. If people are having trouble distinguishing 10 from 11, I imagine that would make scanning Greb's ledger quite the daunting task.
