Yeah, especially when you put in context that Andrade wasn't just some bum that HBO fed him. Andrade has lots of good wins in the B- to B+ range - over Vitali Kopytko, Otis Grant, Tito Mendoza, Eric Lucas, Yusaf Mack, Vitali Tsypko and Robert Stieglitz...and would have kayoed Lucian Bute to pop his cherry as his pièce de résistance had Marlon Wright not botched it. Not the best fighter in his family, though. I always thought Enrique Ornelas was a little better. (he gave B-Hop a tough fight in what everybody had expected to be an easy tuneup between Pavlik and Jones II...and had good B level wins of his own in Bronco McKart, Giorbis Barthelemy, Darnell Boone, and Nito Bravo - with some very close-call defeats to guys like Rubio, McKart and Soliman via split or majority decision) Librado had the better chin by far but his brother was a lot more skilled and just as mentally tough.
I wasn't the only person, for the record, to feel that Ornelas did exceptionally & surprisingly well against Hopkins. This is the RBR thread: http://www.boxingforum24.com/showthread.php?t=189136 (from a time before the IB RBR era...in fact I didn't even post in that one..) Those wide judges' cards were a bit of Golden Boy magic...everybody in the RBR thread was groaning at them and had it much closer..
I like him too. Maybe I can do a combo appreciation thread, The Andrade-Ornelas Brothers. (I'm thinking about a catchy title but my brain is broken today)
Winky: 5-0 (1) Glenn Major - WTKO2 in the rematch. Anthony Ivory - WUD12 in the rematch. Bronco McKart - WUD12 in the rematch, WDQ8 in the rubber match. Shane Mosley - WMD12 in the rematch.
Wlad: 6-0 (6) Carlos Monroe - WTKO6 in the rematch. Everett Martin - WTKO8 in the rematch. Chris Byrd - WTKO7 in the rematch. Lamon Brewster - WRTD6 in the rematch. Samuel Peter - WKO10 in the rematch. Tony Thompson - WTKO6 in the rematch. Tyson Fury - ? So far one defeat avenged, of four. Chance to make it two upcoming..
Actually, yeah, Abraham has done alright. 4-1 (3) Edison Miranda - WTKO4 in the rematch. Robert Stieglitz - LTKO4 in the rematch, WSD12 in the rubber match, WTKO6 in the fourth installment. Paul Smith - WUD12 in the rematch That all would put him in the upper echelon of modern boxers in rematches, but Stieglitz II was a major setback.
As for Diablo, he really hasn't fought in too many rematches and his record in them isn't that great. 3-1 (2) Steve Cunningham - LMD12 in the rematch. Giaccobe Fragomeni - WTKO8 in the rematch, WRTD6 in the rematch. Francisco Palacios - WUD12 in the rematch. ...and the fact that he was avenging the draw in Frag I and gift decision in Palacios I kinda hurts.
Milk Dud... 5-1 (3) Roy Francis - WTKO3 in the rematch. Eric Harding - WTKO5 in the rematch. Roy Jones, Jr. - WTKO2 in the rematch, WUD12 in the rubber match. Glen Johnson - WUD12 in the rematch. Chad Dawson - LUD12 in the rematch.
