Steve Cunningham would have a really shiny record in rematches if you reversed all the robberies he suffered. (that would give him Shawn Townsend II, Diablo II, Adamek II*, & Hernandez II*)
I'm happy with Louis. Ray Robinson did a lot of rematches, I think. We all know he fought Lamotta seven times. Old timers were notorious for rematches. Guys like Langford fought the same guy (I forget who) twenty times or more. Pacquiao is surely the modern king of rematches.
Pac Man: Currently 6-1 (2), will be changing in a little over a month. Marco Antonio Barrera - WUD12 in the rematch. Juan Manuel Marquez - WSD12 in the rematch*, WMD12 in the rubber match*, LKO6 in the fourth installment. Erik Morales - WTKO10 in the rematch, WKO3 in the rubber match. Timothy Bradley - WUD12 in the rematch, ?? in the rubber match.
I'd be interested to know who has avenged the most losses, particularly in the modernish era. Can't think of anyone with more than 2 off the top of my head.
Monzón: 30-0-2 (15) Albino Veron - WTKO2 in the rematch. Antonio Aguilar - WUD10 in the rematch. Tito Marshall - WUD10 in the rematch. Ramon D. Rocha - WUD10 in the rematch, WKO7 in the rubber match. Benito Sanchez - WKO4 in the rematch, WTKO3 in the rubber match, WKO4 in the fourth installment. Charley Austin - WKO2 in the rematch. Emilio Ali - WUD10 in the rematch, WTKO7 in the rubber match. Roberto Carbajal - WUD10 in the rematch. Angel Coria - WUD10 in the rematch, WTKO6 in the rubber match. Felipe Cambeiro - WUD8 in the rematch. Alberto Massi - WTKO8 in the rematch, WUD10 in the rubber match, WUD10 in the fourth installment. Celedonio Lima - WKO5 in the rematch. Andres Selpa - WUD10 in the rematch. Manoel Severino - D8 in the rematch, WKO6 in the rubber match. Carlos Alberto Salinas - WKO8 in the rematch, D10 in the rubber match, WTKO7 in the fourth installment. Jorge Jose Fernandez - WUD12 in the rematch. Carlos Estrada - WKO2 in the rematch. Nino Benvenuti - WTKO3 in the rematch. Emile Griffith - WUD15 in the rematch. Jean Claude Bouttier - WUD15 in the rematch. Bennie Briscoe - WUD15 in the rematch. Rodrigo Valdez - WUD15 in the rematch. Louis may have some competition. Lots of quality in there, along with a staggering quantity.
I actually missed a couple! Antonio Aguilar - WUD10 in the rematch, This content is protected . ...and I completely whiffed on This content is protected So he's 34-0-2 (18.) in repeat engagements. All three of his losses were avenged - thrice over in the case of Aguilar & Massi, once for Cambeiro. In addition, nearly every first-encounter draw he ever had was later avenged once at minimum, if not twice. Andres Selpa (1-0-1), Juan Aguilar (2-0-1), Celedonio Lima (1-0-1), Manoel Severino (1-0-2), Bennie Briscoe (1-0-1), and Emilio Ali (2-0-1) each drew with Monzón when first they met only for him to best them in the future. When he drew with Carlos Alberto Salinas, he already had two wins over him (and one more to come after the draw). The draw with Ubaldo Marcos Bustos is his only uncorrected blemish.
30-0 in rematches? :scaredas: Man, that's a lot of good names in there. I dare say, his rematch resume > Louis's.
