I think defintley a better move for Simpson than moving down a weight .I read his boxingnews interview and the hardest part of his training was making featherweight .Alot of fighters think coming in at a lower weight class will be better but atleast he'll be well hydrated .Good fight the extra few pounds might benefit him and superbantamweight could well have took it's toll on him .

Fair play to both for taking the fight. If it happens.

A loss is hugely damaging to both.

IMO Billy, our nation in boxing terms is too wee to have all our boys fighting each other, it does scottish boxing more damage than good IMO to have our lads facing off against each other.

At world title level yes, but at domestic level no. Its a big world out there, no need to do it the old fashioned way anymore. I remember your old pal Alex Morrison saying not so long ago "prove your the best in Scotland, then Britain, then Europe, then the world.:patsch

So bloody outdated in modern boxing, did Ricky Hatton use that route? No! & he won world titles & had a massive fanbase. Sorry about the rant, but I just dont see the point in Apples v Simmy TBH. Financially yes, but from a scottish boxing fans perspective NO:bart

I used to defend Scotty back here in the day, he was my favourite ever fighter at one point!
However, there comes a point when you just have to accept Scotty has been a major let down, & just let it go.

Honest advice from his one time biggest fan on here. Scotty is the past, & Ricky Burns is the future. Its as simple as that.

Rocky, I hear you man, & hope very much that you are right! However, I have been waiting since he pulled out of the Nicky Cook fight & that was SO long ago... it broke my heart then. I idolized the guy. He didnt half make me look like a twat in here at the time!

How many years have passed since though? I love the thought of Scotty coming back big & strong like he was back then, but Im a hardcore boxing fan, & know that long absences from the ring coupled with fighting at the lower weights is a recipe for disaster. Unlike yourself Rocky, theres going to be no happy ending in Scottys career IMO.

You get away with nothing at the smaller weights, & the biggest crimes against a smaller weight fighter are age & inactivity. Scotty is guilty of both, with drink & drugs thrown in for good measure!

Sorry to disagree with you my good man, however its just because I dont want you to waste your time on a lost cause, like I did. scotty gave me some good memories, but the 'what ifs' outweigh any of his ring achievements, & always will.

To be fair there is only one world class fighter in Scotland just now in Ricky so i cant understand you saying no to domestic when we have several about that level and yes to world level when clearly theres only one?

I'm the same as Dunky on this one Billy these guys are top of the tree in Scotland its pity its not for a better title like a WBO Inter Continental if its vacant maybe that would get them back in the mix for better pay days i cant see them getting good money for this one
