Well the judges sure didn't think so. Watch the first 6 rounds, each were extremely close. Floyd pulled away in rounds 7-9 though. Round 7 was a big round for Mayweather, but aside from that, pretty close throughout. Mayweather out jabbed him, but the power punches landed were pretty even. Floyd relied mostly on jabs and straights, Canelo landed more body shots and hooks. Though Canelo did land a number of hard jabs.

But the difference was Canelo didn't use enough upper body or head movement. Current Canelo wouldn't be hit with all those jabs, that's the main difference.

Floyd definitely feared Pac and respected his skills big time.

During the lead up to the fight, Floyd uncharacteristically halted all trash talk and smiles. No gum chewing, clowning around, or barking in the opponent's face. Also never talked about his health with regards to any other opponent.

In the match, Floyd walked Clenelo down and stood toe-to-toe, a tactic he dared not try against Pac. He got aggressive maybe 4 times and got stunned 2 of those times. Later on, he told his bodyguard that Pac was the hardest he'd ever been hit. Floyd also clinched the most he's ever clinched in a fight and at one point DOVE at Pac's waist when Pac just got close (not even punching). Floyd also landed the lowest number of punches on any opponent in his career. And keep in mind, Pac's much smaller and not difficult to find.

Then he was berated by his daddy in the corner after the 6th round. "You fighting like you scared, man!"

    All facts. Not opinion.

“Floyd feared Pac” sure sounds like an opinion to me.

Floyd talked about his health whenever conversation turned to Pac. A LOT. And in an interview, he said repeated that his health was most important and made an example of Ali taking fights he shouldn't have taken re: a Pac fight.

    Not an opinion.

@cslb If Pac constantly talked about his health when asked about Crawford, how would you interpret that?

Well, it was a completely different version of Mayweather who fought Canelo. A much better version of Mayweather fought Canelo. By 2015, Mayweather was pretty much done and produced a boring stinker of a fight with Pacquiao. Pacquiao injured and dizzy from blood testing couldn't land anything of note.

I mean lets keep it real. Mayweather's style that he fought vs Canelo was tremendously entertaining compared to the snoozefest vs Pacquiao.

Why do bums try to make it sound like floyd won 12 - 0? It was a close fight, most unbiased people had it 7 - 5 floyd. You don't win rounds by backing up against the ropes and pot shotting 1 punch at a time, that's not pro boxing.

Floyd talks a lot of crap.Do you not agree? I can’t equate the way Floyd behaves before a fight with the way that Pac does.

Why are you acting like it was a one off comment? It was literally the theme of all interviews related to Pac for 5 years. Floyd's launched numerous diatribes.

If Pac kept mentioning his health every time he was asked about Crawford, it would be incredibly obvious that he was scared.

It's not an exciting style, but that also means your opponent has to do more than walk forward and swing at the air. I don't remember my card, nor am I going to rewatch it because it wasn't an exciting fight for me because I prefer offense fights. However that said Canelo got dominated. So what, many fighters have lost to ATGs. Mayweather retired undefeated and that's just the reality, nothing to say or do about it, but to recognize it for what it is.

At the time Pac didn’t want to take a blood test for peds because it would make him weak. Floyd was just playing an angle in negotiations. You are a bright fellow, you know this. The bottom line is that Pac stunk up the ring in that fight and had the nerve to make the excuse ,AFTER THE FIGHT, that his shoulder hurt. I was a Pac fan but that fight and excuse left a bad taste in my mouth.

Because people are always trying to drag Canelo down to their level. It's impossible. When Canelo lost a close decison, it has to be spun as a dominaton. When Canelo wins a close fight, it has to be spun as a loss. Canelo's rise up the ranks, consistently surpassing expectations, has created a legion of internet troll Canelo detractors, but what we saw over the weekend is that these sorry excuses for a boxing fan don't have any relevance to actual real life butt-in-seat fans in stadiums. This imaginary stuff is all just internet theatrics.

If you really know boxing, it's pretty clear that Floyd struggled vs Canelo. He and Ellerbe said countless times after the fight that he had to reach deep down into his bag of tricks to emerge victorious. You don't reach deep down into your bag of tricks if a fight is easy. Floyd struggled, but he dug down deep and won. It really doesn't help Mayweather's legacy to claim that he dominated Canelo. That's just fantasy stuff. A tough, grind-it-out win by Floyd who was in the twilight of his prime over Canelo was very impressive, but we all know back then Canelo was far from the fighter he turned out to be and is today. Still a good win by Floyd in retrospect, but lets not get crazy. That win doesn't mean anything as it relates to who Canelo is today, other than it was a part of Canelo's evolution that led to him becoming this great.
