Would you do me a favor??? Before making statements like that get a tape of the Johnson- Ruiz fight. Watch it again closely or do as Kirk & I did watch every supposed low blow in slow motion. Every time Kirk laded a body show Ruiz went into his academy award acting screaming FOUL Of all the supposed foul low blows only 2 were low but they were accidental. Probably the most biased referee ever ,Joe Cortez , bought into Ruiz acting. contuinually warning Johnson even though the punches were legal. At the same time Cortez allowed Ruiz to hold & maul Johnson continually several head butts went in including one of the most blatent I have ever seen. Did Cortez caution Ruiz??? No not once. Even the supposeded low blow that made Cortez DQ Kirk was a perfectly legitimate punch. Ruiz should have been awarded an Oscar for his acting performance befor He & corrupt cortez were put out of boxing for ever:patsch
This fight broke Kirks heart in my opinion he was never the same. Kirk was wayyyyyy out of shape for Klitschko He was there purely for the pay day.
I've always felt sorry for Curtis Cokes its every trainers dream to train the heavyweight champ Curtis had Kirk & Ike Ibeabuchi, both very capable of wiining the title but both let him down for very different reasons

All the talent in the world! Dude is a ****ing clown! He had speed, pop, good movement but he was a lazy ****ing clown! He was beating Ruiz handily before the alleged low blows, I dunno what fight some of yall were watching. He was already doneski via obesity before the Vitali fight (not that he could ever beat Vitali anyways). He had the skill and talent to be a beltholder but ate it all away.

That was Kathy Duva that signed off on that, not Lou. Be that as it may, the was pretty much the end of the Duva's being major players in the heavyweight division. They bellied up to the bar and backed Captain Kirk and found out quick how irrelevant you become real quick. But they did take a chance.

Watched the fight now and you were right it was Kirk who was the better man..

There were some even rounds and at some rounds Ruiz did absolutely nothing.

Ruiz wouldn't open up. Compubox had Ruiz landing nearly half of his punches thrown, which was just over 200. Ruiz would have killed him if he wasn't gunshy most of the fight. Ruiz almost outlanded him as well.

I've mentioned this in another Kirk Johnson thread, but I will share again, I remember reading a while back how Johnson's girlfriend had a miscarriage before the Vitali fight that caused Johnson to go into a very deep depressive episode and that is the cause of him gaining all that weight. So let us not be too harsh gents.

Thank you...saved me a lot of typing... Ruiz should have won an oscar that night.

I remember pre-Vitali. How Johnson was saying he had talked to Holmes and Holmes was telling him "you don't need to train so hard".

Too bad that the definition of "hard" is completely relevant to the individual. Probably even a Holmes' average day was more work than Johnson wanted to subject himself to.

More or less sums up every American heavyweight of the last 10 years.
