Remember people thought Wilder could beat Uysk

To be fair, I don't think anyone was suggesting that Wilder would be competetive, simply that because Wilder always detonated a bomb, even when losing that Usyk wouldn't be able to avoid it for 12 rounds.

The question now is how much of Wilder's inability to pull the trigger tonight was:-
1) Age and inactivity
2) Wear from the Fury trilogy
3) A great gameplan from Andy Lee and Parker

Personally, I think the last of those was the most deciding factor - Wilder was wary of Parker's overhand right, much moreso than e.g. Spilzka or Ortiz etc.

Personally, I always though that Wilder could maybe spark Usyk once in a hundred fights - maybe

 

Usyk doesn't have the chin of Parker

He has to box perfectly for 12 rounds.

Parker didn't get hit but even if he did I think he would have been ok.

 

I think the first 2 of those options, but I've been wrong before and I'll be wrong again.

Yeah, for Wilder it was never about out-boxing him, but how it seemed impossible to avoid a nuclear right hand for 12 rounds. But Wilder's mythical right hand was MIA tonight.

Wilder was exposed but even in the Parker fight until the bell rang in the 12th we were all still thinking Wilder could potentially pull out the late KO.
