ditto. he was rusty as hell.

he could have had a nice easy run for the comeback if he kept disciplined and his nose clean (literally) but he picked a solid opponent for his first fight back.

Yeah he won first 6 or so but he never looked comfortable. You know when a guy is scraping the rounds but putting 100% into every round and the other guy looks like he's not even got started yet. Ominous was what it was.

Yeah i said as much at the time, his first fight back should have been a 6 rounder vs a total stiff, second fight a 10 rounder vs a domestic opponent.

He needed to stay in or around fight weight for a good year let his body recover more.

But because of his personality I think he needed some sort of challenge in front of him to even try.

He was ahead yeah, looked rusty to start with but I remember him looking good in rounds 2-3.

Time just caught up with him.I was gutted for him and you could hear a pin drop.Thereafter followed the most emotional sporting interview I’ve ever seen with a crying Hatton telling Dempsey ‘I’m not a failure’.

Flicking through prime yesterday I spotted there is a documentary on about this fight so might give it a watch. Only watched the fight back once and never bothered since it was pretty horrid

Not to hijack the thread, but talking about emotional interviews... did anyone see the Marquez Katsidis fight? Katsidis brother had died a few weeks before the fight, and he put up a hell of a fight against an all time great in JMM. He was an emotional wreck in the post fight interview.

They cut it short but I always felt they should have let him get it all off his chest, tears and all.

I only recently watched this. Good documentary prior to the fight itself. Hatton genuinely came back for the right reason but like other posters have said... the well was dry

It must be hard to decline and not be able to perform to the level you once could. Not many fighters go out on top, they usually have one too many and end up embarrassing themselves like Hatton and haye.

It was. Hatton lost loads of weight, but was a shadow of his former self. I remember him getting frustrated in there. His body wouldn't do what his mind wanted.

    I remember it well.

How many of you on here remember his brother Matthew going 12 rounds with canelo?

I bet a few had forgotten about that one

I'd managed to forget about Matty Hatton full stop before you mentioned him. Now I'm having flashbacks and palpitations. So thanks for that.

I went to the fight that night and that's pretty much how it went.

He actually started off well although his timing wasn't as "on" as it should be but particularly in the round prior to the stoppage and the round he got stopped, he was running out of steam. To cut all that weight after the time he had out and what his body went through must have crucified him - but he always trained like a maniac when in camp.

After all the demons after Pacquaio, he wanted to come back and see if he still had it at the top level. In hindsight, yeah he should've had a few knock over jobs but he wasn't interested in having a couple of 6 rounders and having the mob of fans that travelled over to Vegas etc shell out on those. He wanted to see if he still had it at world level and found out that the well was dry - so he did get closure that night.

Always found it mad that he made a career out of smashing people to bits with body shot and he went out on the end of one.

I remember watching this and Pauli was heartbroken. A huge pay day had been passed away.

Kell Brook and Saul Alvarez couldn't knock him out in 24 rounds, but David Keir stopped him in 4!
