Just watched a DVD of his career , awsome stuff he is one tough guy. Steve seems to be the forgotten man on this site , he was chasing RJJ for years and was set to fight Calzaghe, only to be injured and then retire , so a few opinions please

how would Calzaghe / Jones vs Collins have turned out back in 96/97?

How good do you think Collins was at his best , say compared to prime Eubank & Benn era and todays crop of m/w smw's?

Collins got knocked out in training by Howard Eastman I believe, he refused to fight Calzaghe because he was a no-name. 2 good wins over Eubank but both post-Watson so dont count for as much to me.

hey scotty. collins was as hard as nails. i'd have him behind benn and eubank as even though he defeated them, it was at the tailend of their careers.

hey. yeah its well worth a look back on , he was wild for those Benn and Eubank fights , i'd agree that he would rank behind them though , Collins certainly was one tough man. The hynotist stuff agaisnt Eubank was brilliant , Eubank nearly pulled out of the fight! Shame he retired when he did , Jones & Calzaghe would have been good.

Collins would have knocked Glass Jaw Roy out.

the wins over eubank are very nice work although the first decision is rather questionable.

the wins over benn mean next to nothing. nigel was a shell of the fighter we'd seen in years gone by.

i don't see him doing any better with calzaghe than eubank did in 1997. calzaghe is a level above benn, eubank, watson and collins imo.

Would it be fair to say Collins peaked late in his career, and faded quick after Benn & Eubank ? , he was trained by Roach in the US for years though i reckon and to my memory we heared nothing about him until Eubank got him.

I seriously doubt Eastman knocked him out in sparring.

:yep Always one for a bit of a laugh, Collins said to The Sun newspaper in the buildup to the first Benn fight that he had been approached by ReadyMix concrete as they were interested in sponsoring his chin.

wasn't it fairly common knowledge that he got battered in sparring preparing for the calzaghe bout and thus gave up the game in order not to cause himself any future harm?
