Syllakh was originally supposed to face unbeaten Russian prospect Sergei Kovalev (almost completely unknown at that point) but Roy Jones's promotional company Square Ring which promotes Syllakh demanded that Kovalev sign a contract which included options on his next 4 fights in case he won. Kovalev and his management refused to give them options and accused Syllakh's promoter of protecting him and not believeing in their fighters chance to win. As a result Denis Grachev was brought in as a replacement opponent and a poor one at that considering Kovalev was the original one, we all know what happened from there. Imagine how badly Kovalev would have steamrolled Syllakh had that taken place.

Grachev fights Zsolt Erdei next weekend on the Golovkin/Ishida undercard and im actually looking forward to that one quite a bit. Erdei vs Fragomeni was a FOTY material with Zsolt out slugging him in spite of giving away 22lbs and only weighing 178lbs in the ring. With Erdei's age and injuries he's probably slowed down some more and i expect some great action in that fight next weekend.

I enjoyed watching Syllakh and was hyped on him. Slick black Ukranian. Too bad he has no chin and he fought like an idiot vs Grachev. A couple things you can't predict watching people look like world beaters vs cans is chin and ring IQ.

Before Grachev KO'd Sillakh you need to remember that he took quite a lot of punishment and was hurt several times in the fight. I haven't seen much of Kovalev, I think he's a better fighter and bigger puncher than Grachev but I don't know if his punch resistance is better or even as good as Grachev's.

I really like Grachev and Kovalev. Kovalev for me the better of the two, would have done a number on Syllakh.

Looking forward to seeing more of Denis. There were times when during the fight when I thought he would stop Bute in the later rounds.

Kovalev is an absolute beast, Dawson might be too soon though if that one actually pops off

Dawson is ripe for the picking after the punishment he took in the Ward fight.

Chad will be back, mark my words. Everyone gets whooped by Ward dude, no shame in that.

Not everyone gets stopped by Ward though. He had trouble making weight and even got KO'd in sparring before the fight THEN he took punishment during the fight. Dawson might be done as an elite fighter.

Silakh didn't take Grachev seriously and he paid for it. I still give Silakh the edge over Kovalev
