Do you remember how shocking it was to see Tyson and Jones knocked out for the first time? It was surreal, like you couldn't believe what you were seeing. It was (in boxing terms) very 9-11-esque. You were looking right at it, yet still couldn't believe it was happening...

...I have this strange feeling about tonight. :think

Interesting. I don't see it happening...but no one ever does. That's why it's so shocking. Floyd would have to age dramatically.

Exactly. Ortiz one and only chance is if this last layoff finally comes back to bite FMJ in the ass, or Floyd makes a major mistake - something he has seldom, if ever, done in 41 fights. But I still do have this strange feeling. I wouldn't bet on it, but...MAJOR bump for this thread if this feeling comes to fruition.

I had same kind of disbelief at watching Pacman humiliate Barrera on HBO in 2003. People seem to remember that fight like Pacman was already the pound for pound number 1 and Barrera was a shot has been. Instead Pac was virtually unknown and a gargantuan underdog and Marcos was probably the pound for pound number 2 behind Jones and viewed as unbeatable after notching a string of wins over Naz, Morales, Kevin Kelly, and Tapia.

I don't really have a prediction for tonight. I'm just saying that boxing history is littered with instances of upsets so unexpected they don't set in until months afterward. Like Chavez-Randall too.

Pacquiao beating Barrera in 2003 wasn't even close to being on the same level as Ortiz beating Mayweather. A lot of people were giving Manny a chance in that fight. NOBODY (except Ortiz's camp) is giving Ortiz a chance against Mayweather. It would be an upset just a couple rungs under the Tyson-Douglas ladder, or at least one of the top 10 upsets in boxing ever.
