[yt]eJ0PX3ZQi7I[/yt] [yt]FCPcA-4IQ2E[/yt] Bowe predicted that Ruddock would easily knock Lewis out, and then "surprisingly" didn't want to fight Lewis after witnessing this
I think we have missed out on a great fight here. It's a pick em and I don't read too much into the Lewis stoppage in th unpaid ranks either. Bowe was great on the inside and had a useful jab and uppercut. His chin was good and he posessed power in either hand. I'm a huge Bowe fan who was a beast back in the day. Lewis also had an excellent jab with great skill. He could also take a punch (despite being iced by McCall and Rahman) and could stand there and trade if the need arised. I honestly couldn't seperate them.
I love Lewis' expresssion after the first knockdown as he looks at Ruddock from the corner. Sorry Ilesey but I'll never forgive Bowe for doing what he did to avoid Lewis. There can be little doubt Lewis was the legitimate number one contender for the title. Not only did Razor splinter the division but he denied Lewis the opportunity to fight for the true, undisputed title. Maybe Bowe wasn't scared & there were some underlying political or personal issues that prevented this fight from happening. Either way I have no doubt Lewis would have stopped Bowe. Bowe would have had success but down the stretch I think Bowe would have taken too much. Fighting on the inside would have been suicide for Riddick. That big uppercut would have seen to him eventually.
Sapnin Dan! There are schools of thought as to why this fight never happend, as you alluded to. The result is up for debate, and being a Bowe fan many would expect that I'd edge toward him but I just couldn't pick a winner. What's for damn sure is that we missed out on what would have been a huge fight that may have mapped the heavyweight division out differently. Off the subject somewhat, can I suggest you take a look at Nuts TV this week at about 10:30? There are a few programmes that may interest you.....
People need to get real with all this Bowe-lewis & who ducked who debate! The closest Bowe-Lewis came to actually happening was in 1993, whortly after Bowe defeated Michael Dokes. It was Lewis' team who turned down offers to face Bowe, not the other way around. Don't get me wrong, the offers made to Lewis were probably derisory, so I wouldn't blame him for not accepting those terms. However, at that stage of their careers, had the fight happened then, Bowe was the more advanced fighter, bno question about it. Riddick's was short, but no doubt he was a brilliant fighter during that short period. If only Bowe had more discipline.....
Most 90's fighters were feared / respected based on their nicknames rather than their ability; 'Razor' was just one of those along with 'Buster', 'The Canon' & 'The White Buffalo' - all relative poor boxers in the grander scheme of things even if they did get lucky once or twice they were ultimately shown up for what they were. Bowe belongs with this group; an Olympian he may have been but he was still ****; Golota anyone? Lewis / Tyson / Evander are the geuine 90's articles, the rest were just manufactured frauds which is why it bugs me when people fail to rate Wlad in today's climate.
Bowe's actual quote at the time was "Bet the house on Ruddock". Partly explains why Big Daddy isn't so solvent these days.
