Like most major fights that don't happen, or don't happen when they "should," the main reason this fight didn't happen was MONEY. In the early 90s, Lewis simply wasn't worth the risk. He wasn't particularly well known in the U.S. and Bowe could make better paydays fighting guys like Ray Mercer (who he was scheduled to fight until Mercer ****ed it up against Ferguson), and rematching Holyfield. Undoubtedly, Newman wanted to build Bowe-Lewis into a major attraction that would generate a big payday. He didn't reckon on Holyfield winning the rematch.

The Lewis camp has been very successful in putting their SPIN on this story, but it represents, at best, speculation. And given the whole of boxing history, with fight after fight that didn't happen because of financial reasons, it is far more likely that this is what led to it not happening, as it has in most of these sorts of cases.

Still no excuse for dumping the WBC belt in the trash can the way he did. There are ways of going about doing things & that was not it.

At the 1988 boxing Olympics, Lewis stopped Bowe in the second round. That's the reason...

Does anyone remember when Bowe threw that belt in the trash and said "if Lennox wants this belt, he can get it out the trash, and then we can all call him a trash picker" ...

Such class on behalf of Bowe and when they met face to face ... Lennox sounds funny talking **** w/ his british accent.

The hype of Bowe is just puzzling. The whole world can see that he is nothign special and could only compete with small cruiserweights like Evander. Everyone around the globe knew - knew - that Bowe would have no chance against anyone anywhere near Lewis' quality. A Golota who is exciting, but a level below the Klitschos and Lewis was more than enough for Bowe.

And still some Americans seem to buy into the hype of Bowe. It must be the memories from the Holyfield fights because Bowe has never proven anything against anyone else. It is really puzzling because Bowe is very limited and simple.

They didn't fight, that's what i was saying. Lewis had a big psychological edge over Bowe because he stopped him in 2 and looked great against the highly regarded Ruddock, who Tyson couldn't legitly knock out.
