No. A certain group of Americans in particular underrate him and most other boxers of a similar shade. On the other hand, a lot of brits overrate the **** out of him. Then there are true boxing fans who aren't swayed by any racial or national bias who rate him properly - as a very good hall of fame boxer with a **** resume and heinous punching form which rightly bar him from the ATG crowd. :good
Fantastic post. Also, where did this nonsense about him having an iron chin start? He has been dropped too many times by old fighters and nobodies to have anything close to "iron".
I remember quite enjoying this fight and remember it being really competitive for the first half of the fight. I was supporting Calzaghe and was worried he was going to get dropped by a big Kessler uppercut. Kessler caught him a few times with them from what I can remember. Calzaghe pulled away in the last 4 or so round I think but overall from memory I thought it was a pretty competitive fight. I think Kessler made a lot of fans from how he reacted to his first defeat. Was a good fight. After hearing Kessler most likely fought carrying an injury I felt a little sorry for him especially as he risked his unbeaten record fighting in Calzaghe's backyard. Will check out the fight highlights later to see how good my memory is assuming the highlights are reflective of the actual fight!
Keep in mind he was quite old himself when Bhop and RJJ dropped him and the Hopkins knock down he just seemed to be square footed and caught off balance. Everyone knows what happened after he got dropped in the Mitchell fight. The Salem fight was just a great punch, Calzaghe was back up by the count of 2 and didn't really seem hurt. So in his first 44 fights he had 2 flash knock downs and then 2 knockdowns in his last 2 when he was 36/37? years old. Calzaghe had a great chin.
Just because he lost to Ward does not mean that he is not a world beater, i mean Ward is P4P material, no shame in losing to him
And Kessler stamina was at 70% after the hand injurie remember! :bbb Didn't spare the last 14 days and still he does a great job.
