Remember when Heavyweight title/championship fights was something big

We need a new MIKE TYSON to explode onto the scene & butcher every ****er in fine style

It's in the doldrums & until the K-Bros retire it'll stay that way. But we def need an American who can re-ignite the division:deal

 

It was great. I graduated high school in 1994, the peak of the Holyfield/Bowe trilogy and right before Holyfield/Tyson.

Guys my age would get together to watch the fights, have a few beers, then go out (West Coast, so fights over about 9-10). Great times.

 

i may move to the UK...they love their boxing....great shows, i like the commentators , i like prizefighter, and its still a big deal.... i remember the week or so of coverage they did when hatton made his first trip to the states...LOL hatton was a god over there

 

Agreed. If either of them had the mentality of a Foreman, they would be gods. Just imagine a huge guy like Vitali with a smash and destroy attitude. If Wlad had half the fighting spirit of Arreola, he would be loved and on the networks.

I hope my nephews end up being half the men they are: educated, successful, respectful, classy. They are the epitome of the term "sportsman" but Wlad has sucked the life out of the heavyweight division. Lewis wasn't American, but his fights drew great ratings here.

Man! Hell yeah! I remember when a heavy championship was the only thing to watch. It was a rush and a natural high cause you knew it was gonna be big **** popin. Guys like Ali, Fraizer, Holmes, Foreman, Holifield,( Bowe (early) Tyson, and Lewis. Im talking about some real drama.I aint hating on anybody but for my dime you gotta get down like them boys or you wont get any attention in America. We like charisma and action along with the knockout. That lukewarm **** just aint gonna get it. To answer your question, I remember and I cant wait for the HW division to start cooking again.:bbb:bbb

 

Yeah, I agree with you. I had this argument with someone before and I do praise Wlad and Vitali for their attitude. However, the boxing world - actually the sporting world as a whole - wants more from the 'heavyweight champion' than a nice, decent guy who refuses to hurt his opponent. They want to see a brutal monster who goes out to rip his opponent to shreds. That's why fighters like Dempsey, Tyson, Liston, Foreman etc., are more revered than Patterson and Tunney. Even though they lacked the punch, someone like Larry Holmes would have brutally knocked his opposition out if he could, and that's what fans want.

Nobody wants to see the heavyweight champion go into a fight and intend to paw with their jab on route to a 12 round decision.

This is true, I watched some klitschko fights with my father and he got all nostalgic about ali and tyson and very pissed off at the safety first attitude and carrying opponents till the end when they can finish them in 4.
The fights were vitali vs sosnowski, wlad vs chambers.

 

I remember before Wlad fought Ibragimov. Back then, I was a huge Wlad fan, and my posts on here will back that up. I was really excited to see the fight because I expected Wlad to knock Ibragimov out and look good. I recorded the fight because I must have been busy and the next morning, I watched it with my dad and brother, two boxing fans.

I felt embarrassed that I recommended them to watch such a horrific fight. I hate the fact that the heavyweight champion of the world, the heavyweight who dominates my era of boxing, is completely at ease with outboxing a guy who he could knock out in 4 rounds. Wlad could have looked like Joe Frazer against Bob Foster and utterly destroyed Ibragimov. I hate the fact he doesn't have the mentality of a true heavyweight champion.

Ibragimov never stood a chance that night. The result was solely in Wlad's hands. He had a choice. Look good for the fan and knock Ibragimov out or play it safe and win on points. I hate the fact he chose the latter.

 

Its true, thats why a lot of fans dislike wlad, sure his results will look nice if he can keep the winningstreak up, but he doesnt fight like you would want to see it again.
I think he is scared because of the earlier losses, he completely refuses to open up and sticks to what works, like the ibragimov fight he could have stopped chambers very early, when he finally threw a hook with 10 secs remaining he stopped him otherwise it would have been another pointless ud, remember steward going crazy on him"" knock this mother****er out, dont let this be anotehr obragimov, open up!"
I would accept his style if he fought a really dangerous guy, but you can see him carry them because he is affraid to open up.
I wish he would make a statement by ko'ing mormeck brutally early, but it probably goes to 10 and then the corner pulls him out.
And to think wladimir was actually pretty exciting at some point, I get him not being wild but could have better killer instinct.

I'm not a big fight of either Klit styles but honestly if there was someone to really push them it will make for an exciting fight. And I really don't think that the division will be better right now if they were not fighting. Guys like the Kingpin will be champions...
