In hindsight he looks quite ridiculous now and has contradicted himself. He said that boxing will have no new stars in 2007. 10 years later he himself is hyping up the current generation of boxers on his podcasts. This content is protected I think this is a good example for everyone who underestimates boxing and think it's "dying". Boxing will always produce new big names.
The sport of boxing is it's own enigma that can't be controlled by any man or fate predicted by any man. Every time someone announces the sport dead, it resurrects like the mythology behind the Christ. The Babylonians, Greeks, Romans,Brits, the American Mafia, the Irish, African Americans, Don King, Bob Arum, Al Haymon and now the Russians have tried to control and tame it but it will not be. Boxing will take care of itself and always has.
I don't think Rogan has watched boxing since the 90s. All of his references are to fights in the 80s and 90s, but he doesn't even get more recent guys names right. I saw a clip today from about a month ago and he was calling Orlando Solido "Solis" then a minute later he got somebody else's name wrong too. He just has no clue what's going on or who the players are. Every now and then he'll mention Golovkin or Canelo, but he seems to only just have heard about Gonzalez or Lomachenko in the last couple of months. He thinks the heavyweight division is ducking Shannon Briggs for goodness sakes! He's a casual fan at best.
I think he has been more into Glory and kickboxing but has recently jumped on the boxing hypetrains of GGG, Loma and Joshua, partly Kovalev too. I expect him to hear about Usyk in the next few months (probably Schaub will bring him up) and he'll jump on that train too, he seems to like the Eastern Euro fighters, he has been hyping Khabib since forever in the UFC. He also has some weird fascination with huge ripped heavyweights (remember his Brock Lesnar hype) that's probably why he's talking about Joshua so much. I think he watches the fights of the guys I mentioned and follows their careers, he seems to be fascinated by Floyd but I doubt he ever really followed him closely. Schaub has always been the one who was more into boxing and Eddie Bravo is only into grappling and the UFC, he admits he doesn't know absolutely anything about boxing, even when it comes to striking in MMA he doesn't have opinions. He is a legit grappling expert though, Tony Ferguson has a very high opinion of him, I think he's the only one with whom Tony really works with a lot.
