I always felt Bute was overrated. Ward really dropped the ball by not wanting to fight him.

well, Ward gave Bute fans plenty of reason to do it when he ducked Bute

    Bute was a hype job

Bt groves could still be one

Out boxing captain slow, no defense
Is like beating someone at football when they are in a wheelchair
He still lost to captain slow

Groves needs to fight someone who has actual boxing skills

Nobody is calling him a bum.

He was an amazingly overhyped fighter. He had barely proven anything to warrant the hype he got (similar to Golovkin at this moment in time).

The way he got destroyed by Froch (who isn't a KO artist or excessively powerful puncher) and then followed that up with a horrible performance against Grachev leads me that my opinion of Bute before the Froch fight has proven to be more correct than most in the media and on these forums and others.

Maybe he never would have won but he deserved the fight and it would have been an interesting fight that we missed out on

There was so much cry baby excuse making but at the end of the day when the tournament ended it was the one fight that made any sense for Ward

Froch really stepped up to bat and got himself back in the big picture with that win creating a rematch demand with Ward even despite getting taken apart by Ward

Still, Bute won against a prime Bika, who is now world champion, and gave Ward his toughest fight. Bute getting caught early in the Froch fight, which he never recovered from, doesn't make him a hype job. Ward thought that he was good enough so he ducked him, same thing with Kessler, same goes with Pavlik. Bute is sh.t recovering when he is shaken, but is realy skilled, pretty fast. Look at the 12th round against Grachev.

I agree he wouldn't beat Ward but I do think it would be a better fight than Froch gave Ward.

I do favor Pascal, but its really a toss-up.

Bute had a better performance against Bika than Ward or Calzaghe did.
Had a better performance against Miranda than Ward did as well.
That wasn't enough to "earn" a fight with Ward though. lol

When he had a real chance to earn a fight with Ward, he got battered around by The Cobra.

rock, paper, scissors doesn't and never will
bute got destroyed the first time he stepped up

classic case of paper champ with a padded record, who's hype came crashing down when he fought a top SMW for the first time

Bute still has a lot to offer and would give Ward a lot of trouble.

Styles make fights. Hand speed is no trouble for Bute but power is.
