Remembering Froch Ward

If they waged war inside and Ward was beating him on the inside how can you say he avoided toe to toe exchanges? I can beat you on the inside by using excellent defense getting to you and not allowing you to get to me. It’s called consunmate infighting skills. Froch was hurt. Look at his face after the contest which tells its own tale. You are a Froch fan and there is nothing wrong with that whatsoever however give credit where it’s due. Ward took Froch’s soul.

Ward is a master at taking the air out of a fight. I've tried revisiting tape a few times but can't last more than a few rounds.

Nobody landed a single significant punch.

Ward was always bending over and fighting very low to the ground....or his head was in Froch's chest and he was wrestling him with all the leverage.

Froch just didnt have very many skills whatsoever. Just physical strength and heavy hands.

 

I hated this fight for so many reasons.. Mainly becaus Im a Froch fan hes one of my favorite fighters of all time.. but also because I always knew the fight was all wrong for him and in the back of my mind I knew he was going to lose but the fan in me had this hope that he could pull it off and I could finally see Ward looking at the lights... But I was wrong.

 

Ward has weak infighting skills to be honest. Sticking your head into someone's chest and wrestling around is not skilled infighting. He wasn't working any good punches on the inside.

I say he has no infighting skills because when he fought someone equally as strong as him (Kovalev) he accomplished nothing on the inside. In fact, he got worse than he gave. Sergey Kovalev is a poor inside ifghter.

 

I actually thought it was one of Ward's more entertaining fights.

He beat Froch every which way and I can only recall giving Froch 3 rounds at best.

Also it highlights the difference between true elite level and top level.

 

The fact Ward beat Kovalev twice yes TWICE says a lot about his greatness. You say he accomplished nothing on the inside but his body shots in both fight notably slowed Kovalev down. I understand you don’t like him which is your prerogative but please don’t let us rewrite history and create fiction. Ward is an all time great and complete fighter. You don’t win an Olympic Gold medal face a murderers list of opponents remain unbeaten and not be a special talent.

 

I like Ward just fine as a person and happy to see an American champion. I'm just not entertained by his boxing.

And he did not win the first Kovalev fight. He probably lost 8rds, but the judges felt just fine robbing a foreigner in Vegas. He landed good body shots in the second fight but that wasnt inside work - that was all single shots fired from a distance.

 

You know someone is being down right disingenuous when they say some **** like that. How can someone watch both Kovalev fights and say Ward did nothing on the inside. At this point, Ward's dislike by certain critics have gone beyond hatred, I strongly believe that Ward has a psychological hold on them. Kovalev was their last hope to see him defeated. At this point they have given up and simply want him out of the sports completely. I mean, what else explains the countless type of threads asking if Ward will be missed. Even Against Anthony Joshua who towers over Ward, they're not even confident of a Ward's loss.

I agree but you have to give credit where it was due. Ward/Virgill had Frochs number & would (IMO) every time, Ward was/is leagues above Froch

 

Kovalev was not robbed! Ward worked him out and won a close decision deservedly. He slowed Kovalev down particularly with body shots and won the fight. Unanimous decision no less. Kovalev was not robbed rather he lost his way after an excellent 2nd round. I am very entertained by Ward’s skills. He did to Kovalev what nobody else has done and bullied the bully and made him quit because that is what really happened.

In a huge Froch fan. I have no problems with him losing to Ward. Ward beat a great fighter. Fair play. Racists can calm down here cos Ward is the offspring of Michael flatley. At least cite a brother instead of a pint of Guinness. Froch you are a legend.. Kessler, Groves, Bute, Pascal, AA, MaGee, Reid, Mack, Direll, Johnson, Taylor... Happy retirement both.
