Ponce De Leon was returning just 48 days after defending his title against #1 rated Rey Bautista on August 11, but Lopez who was making his debut in the United States, was not expected to offer the champ too many problems. Lopez put up some resistance early on, however the champion's bludgeoning blows began to take their toll more and more. Finally a huge Ponce De Leon straight left Lopez laying on the canvas motionless and the bout was over. Time was 2:39. The card is the first in the new multi-fight deal between Golden Boy Promotions and the Morongo Casino Resort & Spa. Promoter Oscar De La Hoya was in attendance.
