The problem is that Plant has slowed down against lesser opponents and Canelo gets better as the fight goes on. Canelo will stop him in the later rounds, but Plant will show a lot of heart

Yeah, not only is that a no, but an absolutely not. Not even close. Plant is as by the books as you're going to get when it comes to slick fighters, and he lacks most of the subtle intangibles that Saunders possesses. Also, he's orthodox, not a southpaw. He's going to get mangled tonight. I mean, what are his big wins? Uzcategui, Truax, Feigenbutz and Porky Medina? So what?

Uzcategui is the same guy that went on to be dominated by Lionel Thompson, and lost almost every round to Korobov years earlier. He's not a great boxer by any means, and beating the version of Dirrell he beat means little. But even subpar Oozecat started getting to him late due to his pressure causing Plant to gas a bit.

Truax was stopped by Jacobs in 12 and Dirrell in 1. He's the definition of a gatekeeper. He finally got a lucky break and beat the rotting corpse of Chunky DeGale and then lost to an even more shot version of him.

Feigenbutz got KTFO by De Carolis in the rematch to the match De Carolis dominated him in but got robbed. De Carolis went on to get stopped by Zeuge, who got stopped by Rocky Fielding, then he lost to Viktor Polyakov who went on to get stopped in 2 by Nieky Holzken, then De Carolis lost to Bilal Akkawy, who went on to get destroyed by John Ryder. I'm not using this as a triangle theory, but just to show what level Vincent is on.

Porky Medina was coming off being beaten by Uzcategui, and off of getting wrecked by Badou Jack and David Benavidez. Yet Caleb couldn't put a dent in him.

Caleb is perhaps the most profoundly overrated fighter in the sport at the moment, and that's saying a lot. He's only slick against terrible unskilled face first plodders... literally. He's yet to face anyone remotely good at cutting the ring off and setting traps. Well he's about to. He lacked those two qualities in his arsenal before, Canelo has since rectified that. Sure, one can always hope Canelo gasses, but nope... he rectified that as well.

Canelo's on record saying the first few rounds are going to be tricky for him. He knows there's a riddle to solve.

This fight may follow a similar path to the Khan fight, albeit Plant is a much more realistic opponent. A few rounds to work him out, work the body then stop him. Probably not as conclusively but stop him nonetheless...

Profoundly overrated? Outside the PBC promotional staff, very few rate the kid. Indeed, there are few current champions who are questioned more.

He’s rated the number 1 super middle.
Which goes to show how weak the division is.

    By whom???

While I admittedly don't follow this stuff as much as I used to, the last time I checked Canelo was rated the #1 super middle followed by Benavidez.

Moreover, I was using the term "rate" more colloquially, as in thinks the kid is any good.

The Ring Magazine and TBR whom I consider tge supreme voices in terms of rankings.
I’m sure if you search around more you will find him on some other rankings aswell only behind Canelo.

Allow me to correct myself after checking
The Ring ranks Benavidez no 1 and Plant no 2.
Regardless Plant is one of the top super middles as of right now.

Ring Mag ranks the 168lbs as follows: Canelo, Benavidez, Plant.

That's pretty much what I already said, no?

    I corrected myself.
It s still a good accomplishment but it speaks volumes of the division now.
I dont know if he would be rated with Kessler,Froch,Bute,Ward ir Dirrell were in their primes as was the division a decade ago.

    Fair enough, man.

I'm not going to bust your balls over a semantic rating.

More importantly, my point was that informally not many tout the kid or think all that highly of him.

    Well I do.
I think he is highly skilled and if I knew he had the internal fortitude and big fight experience I would comfortably pick him.
I still pick him but without those intangibles its a big question mark.

    Good for you, man.

Personally I think Plant sees the final bell and gives a good account of himself.

    We'll see.

Plant gonna stink the joint out and hope for the best. It’s on Canelo to make and carry this fight, which really isn’t fair but thus is life. Plants problem is he doesn’t have the gas tank to do that for 12 rounds, eventually he slows and Canelo does enough to win.
