Maybe I should have explained that part of the comment a little more thoroughly. Plant is profoundly overrated, mainly by American fans, as of, the moment he signed on the dotted line to face Canelo.:sisi1

No, on resume and on the eye - Saunders is more accomplished and more talented.

Plant is bigger, but that's about it... It's not nothing, but it's not enough either.

Plant isn't proven above B- grade if we're being generous enough to call Uzcategui that, even. Plant may be able to step up a bit, but it's a very big gulf in class to cross in one go - make no mistake, he's a very heavy underdog for good reason.

As much as many of us would love to see Canelo beaten again, there's no excuse for fictionalising Plant as an elite grade fighter in order to give ourselves hope - he's not that special and there's little hope of this being the fight Canelo comes unstuck at 168.

Only because people are desperate for him to win this one.

In general he's nowhere near as overrated as Wilder, but he's been hyped to hell ever since this fight looked like it might happen.

Again, most fans--American or otherwise--think very little of Plant. Indeed, he has virtually no fan base here (on ESB) or anywhere else. So the notion that he's somehow "profoundly overrated" strikes me as hyperbole.

    Anyway. Whatever.

I made the thread and I don't think that much of Plant. He's the underdog for a reason. I just feel that people are underestimating his ability to front run a fight, and the potential for drama therein. People are also overestimating Canelo's power a bit.

No one really rates Plant because he hasn't really fought anyone. Most of the speculation around him is the degree to which people feel he can rise to this occasion.

Crazier things have happened in boxing.

If we're simply relying on the "eye test" at 168lbs, Plant looks more talented and arguably has the best win (Uzi).

Indeed, Saunders, who I always rated as solid but scarcely anything special, has been anything but dynamic at 168lbs. Did you see the Corceres fight, for example? Saunders was in danger of losing.

Plant is faster than Saunders, has better punch variety, and is quite likely stronger mentally.

Reasonable post that confirms my central contention (the kid is hardly "overrated")
