How would a system like this work:

-a promoter can never be assigned to a fighter, only to a fight

-fight is fixed by sanctioning body, date and venue by fight promoter

-money is either split 50-50 or unevenly split in favour of the winner (split decided beforehand)

    Example:

-Sanctioning body announces fight between A and B
-Promoters bid for fight in an auction (money is split between sanctioning body and prize money)
-Promoter announces date and venue, bears promotional expenses
-Fight night: All revenue goes to promoter (who can then pay off expenses and retain profit)

    FAQ:

How does a new fighter get fights in such a system?

-After receiving professional boxing licence, debutant registers with sanctioning body and is assigned a fight on an undercard.

What is the incentive for the promoter if they can't make fights?
-They promote existing fights and keep revenue from the event

Why can't fighters select their own fights?
-To prevent them from ducking decent opponents, cherry-picking weaker opponents and manipulating hometown advantage

Would Oscar de la Hoya survive under such a system?
No, and nor would his boyfriend Floyd Mayweather Jr. Oscar would be broke and Floyd would be beaten.

Why is prize money only split 50-50 or in favour of the winner?

To avoid drawn-out negotiations and arguments over which fighter gets more money

What if a fighter refuses to take a fight?
Their licence will be revoked and they will be banned from boxing in the state of Nevada, and all other states for that matter.

What happens if no promoter bids for a fight?

The sanctioning body have to finance the fight themselves and pay each fighter at least 50% of the prize money of their previous fight
