Don't be fooled by the latter's several defeats; they're both on the world class bubble. Assuming he was just competing at flyweight because it was a tuneup and is still campaigning full-time at light fly, the smaller Alvarado twin is a major threat I'd favor h2h over anyone in the division the globe over save for the Japanese three-headed championship monster (Tanaka/Shiro/Taguchi). El Gemelo Mas Grande, meanwhile, is a legitimate fringe contender at either super feather or lightweight, and would be a live dog with anybody in either top 15...but likewise, doesn't have a prayer of hanging with the genuine elites such as Lomachenko, Berchelt, Machado, Linares, Davis and Easter.

 

Okay, that was a slight exaggeration, watching the replay now, there was nearly a half-minute of feeling out before that as they danced around each other and pawed jabs into the air, but it was the first punch thrown with any serious intent behind it. The "fight" lasted exactly 29 seconds by my count, from the opening bell to Eliud De Los Santos momentarily losing consciousness (before even hitting the ground)

Word is that René Alvarado is possibly being considered as Golden Boy prospect Ryan Garcia's opponent for the Golovkin undercard on Cinco de Mayo.

Would be easy to make, as the larger Gemelo has a long & illustrious working relationship and has fought extensively on GBP cards as "external talent" in the past (losing to Rocky Juárez, Eric Hunter, Yuriorkis Gamboa , Róger Gutiérrez, Jo-Jo Díaz, and Tino Avila on points and to Andrew Cancio via cuts TKO while they all flew under that banner; and defeating Jayson Velez by SD and knocking out Robinson Castellanos, for a 2-7 record overall against Oscar's roster), comprising the overwhelming majority of his appearances in North America.

Funnily enough, this would represent a drastic scale-back of Golden Boy's flaunted ambitions for Garcia, who repeatedly makes a point of calling out Tank Davis whenever he's near a microphone, and for whom the promotional company was reportedly mulling over a showdown with Gamboa. I think even Alvarado is a very bold step for him at this juncture and could see it blowing up in their face.
