Ren TV: Vitaly Viktorovich Kudukhov vs. Guillermo Agustín Jones RBR

Some of the slowest punches I can ever remember seeing.

Joe Joyce would look like Sugar Ray Leonard against these.

Round 1

Kudukhov is walking forward, collecting jabs on his wrists, and they clinch. Jones is standing tall, flinching away from Kudukhov's jabs, a few catching him on the chin before he can. Short hooks on the hairline by Kudukhov as he crowds in close. Both sort of smothered and by mutual assent step apart into jabbing range. Slow lumpy 1-2 by Jones, blocked. He then sneaks in a straight on the body with deceptive quickness. Jones focusing on body shots as Kudukhov is keeping a high guard marching him down. Kudukhov stuffs a few jabs up into the mouth of Jones and mugs him into the ropes, where they clinch.

Round 2

Kudukhov is just barging in, no real guile to his game, and Jones is catching him with some lay-back counter uppercuts as he gets mowed into the ropes. Kudukhov hitting while holding and is warned for going behind the head a few times. Lead right by Jones. Kudukhov puts out a jab and Jones heaves outside, with his entire above-the-waist bulk swaying inside again behind a counter 1-2, grazing.

Round 3

Kudukhov is taking a step forward and getting clopped on the bridge of the nose with rear hand shots from either stance; Jones doing a bit of switch-hitting now to further discomfit the Russian. Jones looks equally as relaxed and smooth as southpaw. Jones fluttering the right jab up in the air to disrupt Kudukhov's jabs and lunging flurries before they fall together int clinches. Jones is picking off punches with the pinky edge of his gloves and then bending at the waist to deny Kudukhov a target. Kudukhov looking frustrated.

A boxing lesson from a 49 year old, when you are 31. Not a great look. I bet Kudukhov is wishing it was Sherman Williams in there now.

 

Round 4

Kudukhov is reaching across the chasm with harpooning straight right hands at the head, and Jones is perhaps meaning to duck aside in time, but...the body is unwilling. He is getting caught, now - and is audibly huffing and puffing, and initiating clinches more often. The only substantial offense from the Panamanian is right jabs while circling - and he reverts to his native orthodox in the final moments.

This contest is halfway over. I'm honestly not sure the old Cat has the gas tank for another four rounds...

For being so rusty and coming on late notice, he did put in a silky first three at least.
