Ron Lyle vs Reynaldo Snipes. I cannot forget the right hand that spilled WBC World Heavyweight Champion Larry Holmes on their Nov 6 1981 title bout in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, before Larry stopped Snipes in round 11. Ron Lyle although being defeating by Jerry Quarry on Feb 9 1973, by unanimous decision, he posted wins over the likes of Oscar Bonavena and Earnie Shavers. He gave World Heavyweight Champion Muhammad Ali everything he could handle for 11 rounds before being stopped by Ali in 1975. He came close to knocking out George Foreman in their Jan 24 1976 encounter before being stopped by Foreman, who had been decked earlier in the bout. Lyle can take a punch and that is all that Snipes has. Lyle by TKO 7.
Have a look at Coetzee - Snipes. Snipes would probably be scared of Lyle. He was a strange character was Snipes.
Yeah I’ll go with Lyle as well. Snipes was an odd guy and I don’t think his weird awkward style bothers Lyle I see Lyle breaking thru and stopping him on the ropes, probably a tko with Snipes taking some heavy shots.
I think this would be a very exciting fight. Not sure who wins but the fans would be on the edge of their seats
Yea, Snipes was a real odd guy in the ring. As long as Lyle could control his laughter, he would beat the crap out of miss snipes
Lyle has some good wins on his record and often performed extremely well in defeat. He was a consistently high level performer for many years. All I really remember about Snipes was that he decisioned Gerrie Coetzee to earn his famous shot at Holmes then went on a bit of a losing streak. Based on this I would have to favour Lyle probably inside the distance.
Lyle in a surpisingly close fight. Renaldo was quick and that right hand could conceivably floor Ron in their fight. But I don't think Snipes could sustain any success if he did.
Snipes is dangerous and warrants respect, but you have to pick Lyle, who really only lost to the best until very late in his career.
