Exactly. He would've been a decent fringe contender in any era, but that's about it.

He would have KO'd the grinning idiot Lennox Lewis of the Rahman fight with that same right hand.

Other than his one-punch title win, Rahman didn't really beat many big names.

Rahman got knocked out TWICE by the very fragile and very slow Oleg Maskaev. Once he was completely punched out of the ring by Maskaev. In their rematch, it almost happened again. He got knocked out by Tua. Lost to John Ruiz. Lost to an aging Holyfield (and had an alien growing out of the side of his head). Struggled with bloated Toney twice and never beat him.

Without the Lewis win, Rahman's career isn't any better than Snipes' career. They were basically the same guy.

Like I said earlier, Holmes just got up (barely) and Lewis didn't.

    That's really the only difference.

Head to head, if Rahman and Snipes fought 10 times, both guys would win five times. There wasn't much between them.

Ruiz would school Snipes. Mark it.

And Rahman also had a superior career even without the Lewis win. He split most of bigger fights, beating Sanders and Meehan in impressive fashion and getting sloppy draws with Tua and Toney. He at least was beating Tua and Maskaev in those loses too. Snipes just lost to nearly every decent opponent he fought.

True. McCall had the huge win over Lewis. Snipes gave a peak Holmes a good fight and beat a solid top five ranked guy in Berbick. Asside from those brief moments they were both basically career fringe guys.

Agreed, Rahman is grossly overrated. I would pick Snipes over Rahman.

Snipes was truly an oddball, I had to laugh sometimes watching him. Just an odd looking guy, awkward style, ameturish style, but he did OK for himself. He was somehow pretty good.

If you remember, He and ****ey were both nyc guys coming up at the time and had a rivalry going. It was a bout I really wanted to see back then. Snipes actually takes a good punch and that herky jerky style of his was different than everyone else around at the time. So Gerry is not getting a sparring partner to emulate that style, is he? And when Renaldo lets loose with that wild and sneaky right hand. Gerry is definately a nice target standing right in front of him with zero head movement.

It was an easy fight to sell but they were selling out madison square with other ****ey opponents---so no fight for us....the fans. Snipes isn't selling out arenas but he would have beeen a very live underdog in a 1 guy is getting stopped bout.

Snipes would have been too dangerous.
