was at the fight last night and Rendall blasted out some over matched eastern european (i think) in one round no surprise really but the biggest surprise was that he is now fighting at lightweight, what are peoples thoughts on him jumping up two weight divisions? also on the card Jermaine Smyle who won a four rounder on points but looked very ordinary and was smothering a lot his own work.
I heard absolutely nothing about this. I like Rendall, he can still be in some interesting British fights.
If Rendall decides to fight at lightweight its a very bad idea for him really- his strengths lay in his ability to use his size to impose his will on opponents and grind them down.
I'd imagine this is the case, although he is 32 now so I reckon the super-bantamweight days are well and truly behind him! He'll probably boil down to super-feather realistically.
Lightweight seems too big for him, rendall fighting guys like john murray, mitchell or even curtis woodhouse just seems far too big to me.
Would like to see Rendall retire, things are only going to get worse for him. He's had a fantastic career and looked over the hill against Quigg. That night in Japan & the constant struggle to make 126 really took its toll on Rendall.
hes doing it for the money which is never great. Didnt the bin company sack him off at somepoint hopefully he can find a suitable weight and make a bit of cash without getting hurt
Hes not doing it for the money. Hes doing it because he has nothing else to do. He couldn't get back on the bins because of budget cuts there not employing anybody else. He got bored so came back to boxing. He wants to fight at Super Feather/Lightweight so he can enjoy training and not starve himself.
He is doing some sort of social work qualification so needs to make money before he gets full job doing that.
