just had a view at the munroe fight and jesus lads, im not a bernard dunne blind (dublin) follower like a lot but hes surely (chin aside!) in a different class to that fella. i think i actually heard a pit pat sound off his punches on the italian when on the ropes. if i was frank maloney id get this lad to defend his title for another year to help him financially cos when he challenges for a world title id be worried for him getting badly hurt
munroes corner are hilarious. after throwing 100 punches landing about 40% of them he is getting told to work harder. unbelievable. munroe almost throws 1000 punches in the whole fight. malu about 800+ great fight. not clean or technical but the level of precision at world recognised level is astounding. munroe needs to use his hieght and decent skill set. as soon as somone comes to him he just goes to war. not even due to pride but more due to him just going through the paces. his paces being throw as many as you can.
Just saw this fight and what a great scrap it was!!! Wasn't expecting it to be so good, tremendous effort from both fighters. I scored it 115-113 to Rendall, felt he just pulled it out in the mid-late rounds. It was a really tough step up in class for Rendall against the classy Italian and he deserves great credit for pulling this win out the bag, he as getting outclassed in the early rounds but showed TONS of heart, grit and determination to outwork the Italian to a decision. The shortfalls in his technique and power are obvious but I'm certain he can give the world class guys a very tough night (if he doesnt get blown out early)...I doubt any more Euro defences will prepare him for the even greater step up in class if/when he gets Nishioka and I havent got much confidence he has the skills to beat him but he's definitely earned. Well done for the great performance and fight Rendall, made a massive fan out of me :good
I really would like Rendall to do well and win a title it would be nice to see a smaller world champion but there are just too many things that are going against him. His punching technique, age, cornermen, job, promoter are all far from being great. If he was 26 and with Frank Warren I would give him a better chance because Frank would have made him leave his job and would have the connections to get him some top quality sparring. Long story short if he does get a shot at Nishkosha he needs to go to the US get a load of top sparring I'm sure he would learn a lot from that.
I mean anything at or below Featherweight, Prince Naseem must be the last champ at or below 126. I like watching the smaller guys they fight at such a great pace and there aren't many of them around in the UK sadly.
I was shocked no one gave the Italian a win last night. It was a lot closer than what was made out. If I was judging it I would of had the Italian winning by a round. He won the first 5 rounds. Munroe took over up till the 10th round then the Italian won the last 2 rounds if you ask me. Look at when Munroe was named as the winner you could see the face on his corner man a look of we got away with that. Munroe world level could be but he has to go 110% if he is to be world champion knock the bins on the head and up camp as no matter who he fights at World level it will be a hell of a harder fight than this. I dont think he is there right now maybe a tune up fight against a top 10 fighter first before putting him in with whoever the champion is. Last night he fought the wrong fight and was lucky to win it in another place with different judges scoring the fight it could of went the other way. I will be shocked if Moloney puts him in a world title fight in his next fight.
I enjoyed the fight. Very tough and the opponent was real class and better than Dunne. I had Rendall winning by 2 rounds but he still has not quite got what it takes to be a real world champ at the weight.
I agree needs another fight but there isn't much at European level at his weight. I don't want to see him against Jason Booth because I want him to go down to Bantamweight and I want to see Bernard move up to Featherweight he is killing himself at the weight. So that leaves two options Jeromy Parodi (27-0 padded record though) or Paddy Hyland both would be decent fights and hopefully he can see where he needs to make improvements and can implement them before that next fight then after that he can step up.
