i thought hed retired after the defeat to quigg and why have boxrec got him ranked as the number 8 lightweight in the uk? I could see him moving up a weight to featherweight maybe because he was a big super bantam but lightweight?
He had a comeback fight recently cant remember what weight but he has moved up Might of been super feather
Couldn't secure a job back on the bins and still feels he has something to offer in the ring, enjoys training again etc. Moved up in weight now, says he walks around at 10st so making 8st 10 wasn't doing him any favours.
Yeah i know he done under 60's in the amateurs and hes 32 now so def time to move up a weight still think hed be pretty big at featherweight or super feather. I hope he can do something and its a shame he couldnt get back on the bins but i suppose thats the reccesion for you.
I enjoyed watching Rendall gave it is all, don't think he should have took the quigg fight second time he looked old
Rendall was interviewed recently and said he was killing himself boiling down to SBW and has since moved up to Lightweight were he feels a lot more comfortable. Stopped a guy in the first round on his Lightweight debut.
That a big jump to skip two weight classes lol suprised he didnt test the water at feather where he fought before and then said he was too small for the weight after he loss to andy sykes.
I agree it's unusual to jump from SBW to LW so perhaps he has been told there a lot of fights for him at LW out there and so he has gone where the opportunities for paydays seem to be. He certainly looked shot second time round against Quigg although he had been so inactive up to that point bar the 2 rounds with Quigg before the cut that maybe he was just off the pace and had weight issues. Wish him all the best anyway, great pro, down to earth, humble and good to watch. Great fights against Martinez and a really good brave performance going into the lions den against Nishioka in Japan. He's had a great career and it's a shame he never managed to get the momentum going again for a second world title assault, the inactivity after signing with the Hatton's really hurt him. If he had got the shot against Molitor instead of Booth he may well have been a world champ too!
hes two small for lightweight i bet most lightweights come to the ring at 10st 7 imagine how small hed look compared to someone like John Murray
He's just over 5ft 6 and has a 69 inch reach so he's not the smallest LW ever but at the same time he will be at a size disadvantage when fighting anyone pretty much. It's a lot of weight to jump, it's not like he was an enormous SBW that was boiling down and has the frame to hold a lot more weight. FW or SFW would have made more sense in my mind but I am sure these options were considered....
Lightweight is a massive jump, I'm not sure he'll cope too well with this. Superfeather would have been a good shout to test the water, but some lightweights will dwarf him.
