January 29th in Digos City. IBF world minimumweight title at stake, 1st defense of Cuarto.

Cuarto controversially* took a UD over Taduran in GenSan this past January. Now, more than eleven months later, the countrymen will settle their score with both having stayed inactive for the nearly full calendar year's interim.

In addition to having met h2h they have two common opponents:

    • Samuel Gamutan "Silent Assassin" Salva - defeated Cuarto by UD in 2019 and was defeated by Taduran via RTD4 six months later.
    • Jerome Libre "De-Calibre" Clavite - lost to Cuarto by UD8 in 2015 and the same result against Taduran in 2017.

(*many scorers had it for Taduran by 119-108, incl. @f1ght3rz, @CST80, @UnleashtheFURY etc)

One of the worst decisions i have ever seen in my entire life as a boxing fan.

There were like 2 or 3 rounds you can give Cuarto at best. And he was knocked down and the judges didn't even count it on their cards as they had it 115-113 3x for Cuarto.

    It was REALLY bad.

One of the most corrupt decisions i have ever seen live while scoring it.

At least they give Taduran the rematch...

I hope Taduran stops him this time or they probably **** him over again.

Do you know what time the fight starts, IB?

Also read somewhere that Daniel Valladares will face the winner of this in the Summer.

I believe 10pm local time in Digos City, which is 9am EST.

Powcast should have it on YouTube and Facebook.

Isn't 9am too late? 6am seems like a more accurate time.

:nusenuse: Idk what to tell you man... the "10pm Digos City" could be incorrect, but if not that is thirteen hours ahead of NYC (being Philippine Standard, which is GMT +8, and GMT is EST +5) which does work out to 9am.

Filipino fight cards are all over the place, though - sometimes, yeah, they're over before most Americans are up for work, but sometimes they rage on until our lunchtime. I've seen the gamut, with main events early afternoon local time (the way Thailand often does it...or Japan during much of the pandemic) but then other times they've wrapped up closer to midnight the way we're used to in most of the boxing world.

Cuarto vs. Taduran I, going by the timestamps in @f1ght3rz's RBR thread, started a few minutes before 3am EST and scorecards were read at ten minutes until 4am EST. But that I would venture to guess is an anomalous outlier, because that would mean the crowd in General Santos City went home before 5 in the late afternoon/early evening...and I don't think that's super common, so we can't go by that.

@PinoyProdigy - thoughts? I haven't seen any official fight poster.

Box.live has it starting at 10pm local, but whatever intern or employee of theirs wrote the fight details screwed up and mixed up Philippine time with UTC (aka Greenwich Mean), and calculated that it would be ring walks at 5pm EST. So needless to say that does call their accuracy into question.

New York City is, I am a thousand percent certain, more than 5 hours behind Digos City.

Since it’s going to be on Sunday night in the Philippines, I don’t think it’s gonna start very late.
I’m hoping anyway, cause Sydney is 3 hours ahead and I can’t wait till wee hours having to work the next day lol.
