Hatton is a good opponent for anyone, no doubt. I can't knock Floyd for taking Hatton. But let's keep this into context, Floyd is selective for his legacy, he won't be fighting the top at 147, no way in hell, because they present factors that can give him a loss. Hatton, even though an undefeated guy, a P4P guy, is at a styles disadvantage to Floyd and Floyd will have a relatively easy night. So it's a good name, still keeps him at the number 1 P4P, but I'm not going out of context and neither are most people. When he gets in there with Cotto, I'll give him the full credit he deserves, but that's not going to happen.
imagine how floyd would look with these names on his record: mosley de la hoya cotto hatton margarito williams cintron he would have everbody who is anybody in his resume and he most probably would be considered greatest of all time.
Mosley would have been a much much much tougher fight. Hatton is a stylistical amusement park for Floyd. I say we lay off the sack sucking here.....Floyd knows he is going to eat Hattons lunch, but you bet your ass he wasn't so confident about Sugar Shane.
Why wouldn't it? If PBF beats Hatton and Cotto beats Mosley it will be a mega money fight that PBF will be all over it.
Even with those names he wouldn't be considered GOAT. He would possibly be in the top 10 but even then most probably would disagree.
Because, Mayweather has become a comfort zone fighter, that's well known and accepted. I'm not claiming he's not the best in the world, I'm claiming that he's the best and the world, but now very selective later in his career, this is fact.
Leave out Margarito, he's useless on anyone's resume. But if he had Cotto, Mosely, Williams, Cintron(if Cintron keeps improving), Hatton and then two top 154 pound names, whether it'd be Spinks and another and then retiring at age 34-35 undefeated... You'd have a damn good case of the GOAT. A definite top 5.
He definetly deserves respect for taking on such a strong opponent as Hatton. The only thing remains to wish for is for him to change his style, at least from constant running to at least sprinting combined with fighting.
But here is the thing about that. I have never said that I believe Mayweather is a legitimate 147lber, and I scoff at the notion someone would consider him a top 154lber. He simply is not. He handpicked some guys to look good against and that is that. Just like Jones handpicked Ruiz from a pack of heavyweights that had potential to crush him. Ricky Hatton is closer to Floyd's natural weight. This is the division Floyd should be in. Now if he is just fighting guys like DLH for the money, that is fine. Just don't call it a legacy fight. I'll be honest with you. Even if he never faces a legitimate threat at 147 he can do well in the next couple years at 140. If this fight is at 147 then Floyd should at least fight Cotto next and then Williams or Cintron. I disagree. Hopkins, Ruiz and many others have shown how difficult it is to deal with a punch n' grab offensive. It isn't as easy to deal with as it looks. Hatton for his own part has fast hands too, so it is no guarantee that Floyd will always get off first. Thats fine, but I'm not gonna deny it. I consider myself an objective person, and the reason for me getting on the hater bandwagon years ago is that he wasn't fighting the guys he should have been fighting. Now he is. He is taking on an opponent that Roy Jones would never have. (Not literally, figuratively) Cotto by all logic should be the next guy should Mayweather get by Hatton. If Mayweather plans on staying at 147 he needs to make some noise there to rightfully call himself the top 147lber. Because as of right now he isn't that guy.
I'm sick of everybody saying Floyd should fight Shane because we all know after he beats Shane the haters will say Shane was washed up. I'll say this 1 last time too. He wanted to fight Shane last November before he fought Oscar. Shane made it clear he wasnt fighting again last year.
It really doesn't matter what the haters think, it matters what the intelligent boxing fanbase and historical raters think. Mosely gets more points as a win than Hatton for me, that's just how it works.
If he beats Hatton and Cotto beats Mosely, he has to fight Cotto. This fight would be for the money and the legacy. I cant think of any other fight which would define his career like a fight against Cotto.
that can be said about any fighter floyd faces, hatton was too small, margarito was never anything, cotto was hyped, that does not mean he shouldn't fight them.
