Well the yes. The quality of the punches landed and how much they hurt is more important than what compubox says.

I would tend to disagree. This is where its so subjective. Quantity, quality and how much you hurt the opponent all come into it. If you are claiming that volume of punches landed does not count then that's just not correct. Personally I would say this is in fact, the most important factor by a distance

Well judges literally do not count punches so there is that.

The most important part about punching is the quality of the punch and the effect on the opponent.

Take a look at DLH and Whitaker. Pernell landed more and was more accurate. But DLH landed harder. So he won.

They might not literally count punch by punch but the higher volume often comes to be rather clear throughout a round, its a crucial factor.

Of course the quality is important, but a jab to the mid section for example, is a quality punch, because it landed. Its not all about being an extremely hard left hook or whatever. Extravagance is not the be all and end all, although it helps.

To clarify what I mean, if its a slow round all in all, but I land 10 flush jabs to your face which doesn't really rock you badly, and you land 2 left hooks which are quite painful, I win that round

I see what you're saying. But you need to really have a strong rally to win a round if you are hurt. I'm not really in the habit of scoring rounds for a fighter who was hurt in that round.

That awfully harsh criteria there, people can get dropped and still do enough to take back the lost point, like Porter against Broner and Trout against Canelo. If someone gets rocked and doesn't go down, they can easily come back and flat out win the round.

You know it isn't a scoring shot, but you also know how judges tend to judge rounds, unless they are judging a Canelo fight, the man with the higher work rate who looks like he's connecting more will get the round. Canelo is the only fighter who can throw hardly at all, land hardly at all, and still win rounds.

To be fair Spence was landing a lot of clean blows.

He was using a high jab output to stop Mikey from being able to get his feet set and having to deal with that constant right hand in his face.It was a tactic and a successful one.No they weren’t all landing but he was scoring with a lot of accurate jabs and was doing a number of Garcia.

I'm talking solely about the first 3 rounds, which were close as hell.

    Very valid point.

A lot of Carroll’s work was ineffective.

If your opponent is landing nothing and you're at least doing something than I'd count it but only in that case.
