Hey Pete, could Dempsey take Moore's best punch?

Fireman Sam knocked him cold for 30 seconds in total.

Tunney short-circuited & buckled his legs with a single punch. (Not a puncher even at Lightheavyweight.)

Firpo floored & almost blasted him out early. Journalists helped him to his feet.

Some Middleweight barroom-brawler called Sudenberg bounced him off the canvas 9 times in one round.

McGrain noted numerous other instances of Dempsey being dropped multiple times by novices.

Tunney had 48 stoppages in 65 wins ,he could hit alright.

The journalists shoved Dempsey off them in self preservation, not to help him back on his feet, he was flailing his fists, and kicking all around him, he gave Kid McPartland ,one of the judges ,a black eye in the process.
Could Moore take Dempsey's best punch? He was kod 7 times.
Dempsey was a half starved kid when he fought Sudenberg in 1915, he probably scaled inside the lhvy limit himself..

Which numerous other instances of Dempsey being dropped multiple times?

The guy was stopped ONCE IN 77 FIGHTS!

I think Moore could knock Dempsey out, Tunney fought that fight negatively and wasn't the puncher Moore was, masterful boxing but not as aggressive as Moore would be

Tunney won with his legs, Moore never had wheels like that so, though he might hurt Dempsey more, he would also be in range to be hurt himself.
Tunney wasnt, the one time he left himself vulnerable, he got clobbered big time.

Moore would outbox the Dempsey of Philly but the Dempsey of Chicago takes him out ...

This is a bit of a myth, Tunney stood his ground plenty, it was every bit as much trap setting, straight punches and counter punching making a come forward hooker look silly. A boxer without a jab or straight right is very easy to pick off coming in and that's what happened. Either way Sharkey also fought him in the pocket and got the better of him with crisp counters

Archie has all those attributes and may well make Dempsey pay moore than Tunney for any mistakes, see what I did there :D

Film of the fight shows Tunney landing quick one-twos and retreating on his bike
, he was on the back foot all night. Archie would be moore wright for Dempsey than Tunney. Touche!

Well, I think that, vs. Moore, Dempsey has a better chance of winning (than vs. Tunney), though perhaps the chances of Dempsey being stopped go up slightly, too.

As for who I favor, I'd favor Jack a little. Sharkey -- who showed a _lot_ of skill vs Jack -- said "You came out of a fight with Dempsey full of welts and bruises and every bone aching." I don't see Moore showing any more evasive or countering skill vs. Dempsey than did Sharkey, and am skeptical that he would be any better tieing up Jack than was Sharkey. So I think Moore is probably going to be worn down a bit in this battle.

Not all of the time though he stood his ground and came forward too

I see Archie winning, but don't see him doing a Winky Wright on him moore of a Sharkey with balls :yep

I think Dempsey would be too strong for him and Jack had some decent speed as well, not an easy fight for either man Archie was crafty and could punch but Jack was a brutal puncher and may be too much for Archie with a quicker start than Marciano but Dempsey did not prove the late power like Marciano so 15 rds may favor the Mongoose

Tunney outboxed an old Dempsey because he was a lightning fast, supremely conditioned master boxer ... Dempsey was faster, stronger, harder hitting and took better shot than Moore .. Archie could never deal with the speed and power of a prime Dempsey , no way ..

Tunney was better than Moore. It would be tough fight since Dempsey was older, but Moore was way more stationary than Tunney.
