I believe it means nothing to him now and it haunts phony Leonard because Duran is so loved and Leonard is seen as a self serving phony. So I ask you who really won their rivalry?

This is true. Duran is no different than most in being knocked out. Most great fighters have been knocked out one time or another if they fought any quality fighters. Hearns was knocked out similar to how he knocked out Duran, and to be honest Hearns doesn't really brag about that win too much. But the quitting part is very very different. In a huge fight like that. It was hard for Duran to get over but he did for the most part. I don't judge him on that as much as the excuses he always gave to take away from someone elses win over him. It took away from Leonard's win in a fight I think Ray was starting to land clean and Duran know he was going to knock him out and I am sure he could tell Ray was trying to knock him out. Do I like Ray? Personality no. And that two title thing with Lalonde was ridiculous. He is one of the most egocentric guys around, and it must bother him that he is not in his boxing prime now and not near his popularity. It must bother all of them to be honest. Hearns goes to these autograph signing things and so does Duran, and they don't look happy at all. Not content like they did when they were fighting. I don't think Leonard does those autograph signing events. Hearns looks the saddest of them all and his speech is not too good now. I don't know if it is the past fighting which hurt him or maybe he is just tired and not enthused by these events today and he sounds and looks low energy.

Duran is more loved than Ray as this message board shows. He was more real and he was who he was and people love that. I will give him that, you could see who Duran was more than Ray which is why you could see why he made the excuses. He just couldn't accept losing and had to save face. There is no way someone like Duran is going to admit he was knocked out or beaten one-sidedly. I still think being fair about excuses is important. As much as a phony Ray is, Duran's excuses take away from Ray and I will never believe it was Duran who made him fight in that first fight. Because of how Ray turned it around. And the 3rd fight is significant also. He did it again and that was an older Ray. Same thing. In and out not fighting Duran's fight like Duran made Barkley fight it 9 months before. But Ray is hard to figure out. He gives off this nice persona, but he is a guy who would knock someone out cold and not feel bad about it. The Lalonde fight he knocked out Donny with hits on the break and I think crushed his windpipe if what Donny says is true. Hearns is actually less brutal than Ray in someways. He doesn't hit on breaks and he lets his punches which land legally do the talking. Hagler also. Ray was the dirtiest of them all.
