This content is protected This content is protected The explosive fight between two knockout artists Manny Pacquiao of the Philippines and Japan-based Venezuelan Edwin Valero will be held in Houston, Texas on Nov. 8 according to a report from Mexican newspaper Esto. "The chosen city is Houston, given its enourmous Filipino population and the fact that Texas is the only state in the United States which gave a license to Valero," the report said. Earlier, Top Rank chairman Bob Arum, who promotes Pacquiao, had accused MGM Mirage officials of conspiring with rival promoter Golden Boy Promotions of blocking its plan to hold the fight at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas. Las Vegas was Arum's first choice where to hold the blockbuster event. Pacquiao (47-3-2, 35KOs) has become the hottest ticket in boxing after he demolished David Diaz of Chicago last week en route to capturing Diaz's WBC lightweight title, his fourth title in four divisions and also being recognized as the best pound-for-pound boxer on the planet. The undefeated Valero (24-0, 24KOs) has captivated the imagination of boxing afficionados all over the world with his perfect knockout record where he stopped all his first 18 opponents in the very first round. Valero never fought in the United States before after he was discovered to have a head injury due to a motorcycle accident earlier in his career. A recent review of his case by the Texas Boxing Commision gave him a clean bill of health and he is now allowed to fight in the state of Texas.
not the fight i wanted for Pac. I would have liked to see Guzman vs Campbell cancelled and Pac fight Campbell in November
Kind of spooky if your a Pac fan. It was just a few years ago when a 29 year old star Marco Antonio Barrera faced an relatively unknown puncher from Asia in a fight held in Texas. Pac: 29 years old, star, fighting an relatively unknown puncher traveling across the Pacific in a fight in a Texas stadium. yikes:yikes
Man I was hoping for Pac/Soto, but this should be a good fight anyway. And what's the deal with Arum's constant animosity towards Golden Boy Promotions, I thought all that was water under the bridge:huh
One of the reasons I'm opposed to this fight at this juncture, like MAB before him, Pac might be overlooking his next opponent while focusing on a supermatch against Hatton(or JMM3).
Yes, the circumstances are almost the same except for the "relatively unknown puncher" thing. Unless you don't know yet that Valero is a terrific KO artist.
With a head injury from an accident ala Barrera's head plate... :yikes Santo dios. Some kind of strange karma.
It just goes to show no matter who you fight people will knock it. How anyone can knock Pac for takeing this exciting fight is beyond me. I just cant comprehend from a rational standpoint how you can knock Pac for fighting Valero. Im totaly excited about this guys career and the potential great fights ahead Pac vs Valero is second only to Hatton Pac as far as excitement.
