Report: Teddy Atlas will no longer train Alexander Povetkin

Best thing that could happen for Povetkin.
Atlas can only train 1 mold currently and thats a very simplified Tyson mold.
You can see it in how Povetkin tried to fight his last few fights he just looks completely unnatural as he just does not have the same attributes as Tyson has.

Povetkin is a very fundamentally sound pressure fighter, he needs a coach that teaches him to slip better and places his combinations better.
I really think a more Mexcian style orientated coach would suit him like Nacho or Garcia.

It's so sad when he was comingup especially with his AMAZING amateur career he was going on 1 of the fastest tracks i have seen to a title shot looking great on the way.
Then he just went completely stagnant and Atlas just regressed him and set him back years as a fighter instilling terrible habits into him.

Such a total waste of a great talent.

Pretty funny that Steward can work for HBO as a commentator and at the same time train Wladmir overseas, and a couple other fighters as well. Yet Teddy can't handle 1 fighter and his day job.

How much are they possibly paying Atlas at ESPN??. And why can't they find a sub for him on the few shows he'd have to miss? Is it out of the question to commute so he doesn't have to miss every show.

Lets not get forget it's only ESPN and their weak cards he would be missing, and not major world championship matches or Networks(HBO,Showtime,EPIX) he covering for. Half the time he complains about the fighters on the ESPN cards anyway.

Isn't it in the better interest of the fighter to train closer to where the match will be held. To adjusted to the climate,atmosphere and time zone, etc?

He should blow Wlad for beating Haye, and allowing Povetkin to win this fake title. Something I'm sure Atlas will take all the credit for and over exaggerate the importance of the fake title.

The bold is very contradictory. A Mexican style couch would teach him to slip punches better? I think Atlas babied him too much, so I won't deny this being a good thing but I'm not sure where you're coming from when you say he's a sound pressure fighter but Atlas methods were wrong. I don't really see him as much of a pressure fighter, anyway.

Head movement and not fighting in straight lines were his two biggest flaws in his early pro career. He's improved a little in both regards imo. Iv always thought his combination punching, variety and placement was top notch (as far as HW's are concerned)

Quite imo. Alot of what gets attribited to "Russians" are actually perpitrated by Russian speakers, not Russians. The "Russian" population in Brighton Beach and the organized crime is almost entirely Jewish or from the Caucasus (certainly pre-2000). Same goes for the OC and Oligarchs in Russia itself hence why they're able to flee back to Israel to avoid prosecution when the squeeze is on.

How would you like it if atrocities or crimes committed by members of the Mexican Cartel were attributed to "American" gangsters and henious "American" animals simply because they're living or operating in the US.

 

pre-Atlast i'd agree with that poster and say his identity as a fighter was that of a volume pressure fighter. He had a high workrate and won with volume and good conditioning (Chambers/Byrd fights) while getting hit alot himself in the process.
