His opposition was quality as well, losing out to Patterson, Ali and Johannson, no shame in that.

He has a couple of wins over Folley and London, and was European champion in a time where that actually meant something. Quality stuff.

He had successes against some very good men. I'm sure his ''Ammer' was listed in Bert Sugar's lists book - 'top ten left hooks'

    RIP Enery.

Sad news indeed, I remember listening to his fights on the 'wireless' with my dad when I was a nipper

Rest easy Henry you've left us all with some great memories

I am very sorry to hear that. I was just reading about Cooper in Reg Gutteridge's autobiography recently:

Henry Cooper the only boxer to hold three Lonsdale belts.

Cooper lost his British Heavyweight title by the minimum margin of a quarter of a point to Joe Bugner. The reason why the decimal point system was abandoned in 1988, had much to do with the Cooper-Bugner fight.

On the announcement of his retirement in boxing Cooper simply stated:

    "Well, gentlemen that's me lot".

    RIP Henry Cooper.

A big loss to the British game, he was much beloved, and a more than fair fighter.

It's on the Sky Sports site, seems like it's true.

"... Muhammad Ali in 1964, later said, on British television, that Cooper "had hit him so hard that his ancestors in Africa felt it"."
