Hi guys: A request for anyone who watches either of these two fights in the future on youtube. Frazier-Foreman: Can someone count the number of left hooks Frazier lands / attempts on Foreman during those 2 rounds? I'll bet the accuracy is high. I had sporadically counted at least 12 left hooks. The fight was somewhat competitive it is just that Foreman's granite chin made it look like nothing (whereas those 12 hooks could have been 12 different KOs against lesser fighters). Foreman said he was hurt during that fight (but how hurt?). Tyson - Douglas: Can someone give a count of how many jabs Tyson slipped? I think we can get this data from Compubox. I'd imagine the percentage is very low as Douglas was throwing 50 a round which is way too much for sporadic bobbing weaving and reflexes alone to handle. This was actually a great fight and more competitive than one sees on the surface. These numbers will prove to be interesting. I am always reluctant to watch these two fights because (1) it is sad to see Joe Frazier like that (2) I don't like watching Douglas school one of my favorites.
All I remember from the Frazier,Foreman fight apart from the knockdowns Foreman scored was that everytime Frazier tried to get close to land his punches, Foreman just used both hands and just shoved him away before he had a chance to set an land. Guess that must’ve been legal thing to do at that time, ha ha
Wasn't legal, but it's one of those things refs let fighters get away with. And Foreman never really stopped doing it -- he pushed guys away plenty in his second career.
I don’t like watching Foreman-Frazier either because Frazier is my all time favorite but I remember Frazier having success inside, and actually briefly stunning Foreman before Foreman started the shoving.
I counted about 23-26 left hooks thrown and around 9-10 landed (didn't count shots that looked to me like Foreman had blocked them with his arms or completely rolled with). I'm surprised at some of the shots Frazier managed to land. From memory Foreman just came out, partially blocked all of Frazier work, didn't give him the opportunity to throw and just beat him around the ring, but in the first round Frazier did actually manage to land some genuinely strong shots to the head of Foreman.
I just watched the 1st round in 60 fps aswell so it's a highly quality version, Frazier landed 2 solid left hooks but I didn't see him having much success other than that. What actually impressed me in this fight was Foreman’s jab. I've never really paid attention to it before maybe because this version is so clear but you can really see Foreman’s shotgun jab really effecting Frazier his face expression says it all.
I didn't look at the date of the thread I just see the new replies and figured it was a new discussion oh well atleast I got to rewatch the fight in 60 fps I haven't actually watched the fight in years.
Foreman got some credit for his boxing ability, but not enough in my opinion. In another thread about his fight with Biggs someone commented that Foreman used his jab very well.
If I'm being honest I never noticed Foreman’s jab in the 1st fight vs Frazier I was probably too fixated on the destruction that was happening. But seeing it again in high quality 60 fps you really see the effect Foreman had on Frazier with his jab anytime he landed it Frazier's face expression changed. Against Briggs you're right Foreman mostly outpointed Briggs with the jab alone rather than relying on power punches.
