...yes, and if you read carefully you can see that the entire initial post is talking about PBF strenght and how Cotto can counter act them...every single items, is noted becuase PBF skills
Certainly, and I read that. However, you failed to mention how PBF would counter Cotto's strengths or how he could win. You mentioned PBF's strengths only to illustrate that Cotto had the perfect counter for them in his arsenal.
I will not used the word "perfect" but a a good arsenal indeed.....PBF ads are so obvious that at times it is redundant mentioning them....all I like to do is offer real resonable options that Cotto could take advantage to nulify some of PBF advantages....
failure to mention how cotto is flat footed and takes that big ass step forward when throwing a punch..also how he squares up and has poor defense
...That flatfootness you refernce is what allowed Cotto to get such tremendous leverage on his body punches....and his jab
but you have to realize he doesnt have fast foot work and has to be flatfooted when he punches...i understand why he does it but in order to have a chance against pbf you need to be able to punch on the move and on your toes something cotto does not do..or else he wont hit pbf...if your moving and not standing right in front of cotto he wont hit you often..his footwork is to slow and he closes the distance to slow....also that long ass step he takes everytime he punches would get timed to ****ing death and he'd be counter all night long...
I think thats a good point Sympheneco. Cotto's handspeed is faster than many initially gave him credit for, but his footwork is not that great. Mayweather knows how to take advantage of guys that are slower than him (see Diego Corrales) on their feet, or more specifically, require a little bit of time to get set to punch. Though I think this is becoming less of a problem for Cotto, he seems to be learning on the job. In the last part of the Mosley fight, when he got up on his toes and tried to keep from engaging Mosley, he was still able to get off some good counters against Mosley. And personally I don't think Cotto's left hook to the body is even going to be a factor in the fight. Floyd has shown in his past couple of fights that he's extremely good at picking a punch (or two) and neutralizing it seemingly without even thinking aout it all night long. ITs like he just programs himself in training to keep his glove up or his elbow down during the fight because he seems to just have some ESP about blocking these shots, or at least some kind of radar or satellite tracking system. Why should the fight have been made when Cotto was at 140? Cotto wasn't a big enough name 18 months ago to fight Floyd, on top of that, he had yet to be tested against a slick boxer. Hell, Cotto's last 140 lb fight was against Paulie Malignaggi!! Are you seriously telling me Miguel should have fought Floyd instead of Paulie? And it never could have happened anyway, Floyd moved up to 147 a full year ahead of Cotto. Cotto is still improving as a fighter, and Floyd is not yet on the decline - why do you want the fight to have happened when Cotto was not even as good as he is today?
Cotto's FOOTSPEED isn't great. His FOOTWORK is excellent though. He's always balanced and in good position to punch. It's the technical pressure fighters who work their way inside who will give Floyd the most trouble. Castillo wasn't fast on his feet, but because he worked his way inside in a cerebral fashion, he was able to run Floyd close. Cotto doesn't have the footspeed of Hatton, but he works his way in behind a jab, cuts off the ring better, and is a much more effective body puncher at the elite level.
JC could take a punch too though...he ate a lot of shots working his way in but he could take them you know.....im not sure Cotto can take that many flush shots but if he can then yea it may be a close fight. Also.....JC closed fast as well.....Cotto doesnt close fast.....how Cotto fights....is a plus for Floyd bcause its a slow pace and now he can stand on the outside and TIME his punches which is so overlylooked by people.
i think cotto is going 2 have 2 call out pbf 2 make this happen. the only thing is that its not in cotto nature 2 call anybody out. he basicly leaves it his managements hands. saying that it will a shame if these 2 great fighters dont fight.
