Let me make this clear, i have never before liked, as a person or boxer, Floyd Mayweather, but over the last few months, culminating in last night, i have to admit, i finally appreciated him. I used to complain about his cherry-picking ways, but last night he took on a dangerous legend, coming off a great win. I always thought Mosley was his toughest test yet, and i take my hat off to Mayweather for choosing to rise to the challenge. I used to hate his defensive style. But last night he did more than use his reflexes and movement for defensive purposes. He integrated them into his attack, and to devastating (and much more exciting) effect. I always thought he was untested in the chin department. Last night he took 2 flush rights, from arguably the hardest one punch hitter in the welterweight division. He soaked it up, and came back the next round to re-establish his dominance. I never thought Floyd cared about the critics, or the fans, and what they said. Against Mosley he took a chance. He put his balls on the line, going forward and revealing a strategy his critics never thought he would use, certainly not in the biggest fight of his career. I used to hate his bravado. I always thought he was just insecure, but he showed last night his behaviour before the fight is all about ticket sales. He showed nothing but respect in the post fight interview, it would have been easy to go on about how he had proved people like myself wrong, but he just talked about the fight. People saying Mosley would have beaten him x years ago, Mayweather beat Mosley last night, that is all that matters in the end! People saying Mayweather failed in the chin area, he took flush shots, and did not go down! People saying Mosley was shot before the fight. I admit that was not prime Mosley, but it was still a good Mosley in there, he nearly took Floyd out in the 2nd, but Floyd was just the better man over the 12 rounds. Last night Floyd defeated comfortably one of the greatest pound for pound fighters of this era. If you dont respect him for that then you never will, and your integrity as a fight fan is compromised slightly because of it. Apologies for a long thread, and once again if it bored you, but i'm fed up seeing "boxing fans" shouting about what Floyd Mayweather did not do last night, when they should wake up, open their eyes and respect one of the most skilled fighters of any generation while he is still here.
Floyd proved a lot of people wrong last night. The only problem is that most of them can't admit it. He took a fight a against a guy that all his haters said he would never take. He took the biggest shots of his career, came back, and took shane to school. If/when he fights pac and capitalizes off pacs mistakes and takes him to school they still wont give him credit. They will probably say some stupid **** like "yeah but he's wont be good in my honest opinion unless he goes up to 160 and wins"
