When the bell sounded at the end of 12 for GGG vs Canelo 2 there was some respect shown on by both fighters. Golovkin showed some disgust at the decision, which is understandable.

This is no Gatti Ward story by any means, but a 3rd fight could turn into something that is talked about for years. Run it back.

I'm afraid Golovkin gets KO'd in the third fight. He's slipped too far and Clenelo's aged him out another 2-3 years by the time they fight again. Plus Clenelo will be jacked up on roids.

I don't think Golovkin can be knocked out, I really dont. I think his kidneys and liver would have to shutdown from body shots for him to go down.

Its a yawn from me at this point. Theyre at two completely different stages of their career and the outcome of the fight isnt in any doubt imo.

As a fan of GGG, I don’t want to see this. I would be happier if he retired. Canelo won’t come down to 160 an that suits him if it’s 168, he’s prime now an at his natural weight after bulking up or filling out more.

Canelo is now entering the peak of his prime. GGG could never beat this version of Canelo, and the way GGG has looked ever since losing and absorbing a lot of punishment from the rematch he is likely to get hurt bad in the rubbermatch.

Golovkin is older and more vulnerable, but at least we know he can make Alvarez fight. Who else can bring that out of him from 160 to 175? Beterbiev, maybe. Saunders, Bivol, and Charlo are fine substitutes, though I'm not sure those play out well. Saunders isn't on Lara's level and has looked bland most of the time. Bivol's safety-first style plays into Alvarez's hands because it would likely be close. Charlo showed some grit against Derevyanchenko, so I would like to see that. Not only because Charlo appears capable, but because I want Canelo to defend the true middleweight crown and not meddle around at 168, a non-traditional and historically weak class. Speaking of 168, Benavidez and Plant look solid but they should settle their dispute first. Both need a real test before taking on Alvarez.

If it happens in 2021 I’m good with it
If it has to wait another year ... pointless.

Possible. However GGG turned on the juice in rounds 9-12 of that fight...anything could happen.

That's true. Canelo seemed a bit more gassed than Golovkin in the latter rounds.

    great post
I would love to see a 3rd fight b/c GGG still has power, skills, smarts and a chin. As well as that jab.

He outworked GGG over the first 8 rounds. He gassed because of how many power punches he was throwing, and this was in response to be called on to fight Mexican Style. If he paced himself better he wouldn't have gassed as much, but he wanted to win those early rounds emphatically to ensure a commanding lead on the cards. In a 3rd match you'd have to expect Canelo to pace himself better, more like he did in the first match. What makes a 3rd fight interesting is due to how their first two matches were fought in two distinct styles. If the match occurred at 168 Canelo has a much better gas tank than he does at 160. GGG also would benefit I think from fighting at 168 making it a better fight. I'd expect a lower output match than the first two if it happened.

No Gatti/Ward story at all bro.
This third fight ends like Apollo with the Russian except the Russian is Mexican and Apollo is an EE over the hill fighter

Canelo might actually KO GGG in 2022:deal: if social security doesn’t get him first :couch:
