Lewis deserves his place imo as the 3rd greatest heavyweight of all time, behind Ali and Louis. Lewis's opposition was outstanding and so were his skills and his accomplishments.

If Lennox had decisvely beaten a heavyweight as great as the Holyfield of '96 or the Tyson of '88, he would be even more special. But he didn't as those guys peaked at different times. Would Lennox have beaten them? We can only speculate but imo the results may have been different.

Still Lewis deserves a lot of respect for what he did in the heavyweight division for years and for beating everyone that was put in front of him and avenging his KO losses.

 Seriously are you kidding me?!?!?

Like you said he didnt. When Mike was at his peak as the best heavy on the planet LL was an amateur winning Gold for Canada. When he did get his opportunity vs a very past it Holy the judges righted where they went wrong in the first bout and gave the decision to LL. Lennox was a classic right time right place guy and nothing else. If LL had fought out of Canada he wouldnt even have been mentioned during the 90's. Thats why he came back to Britain..... and remembered he was British again...

He is top 3 greatest HW in my books.

His overall career, in terms of achievement in the ring, his physical and financial health is probably the best ever in boxing.

Lewis is a case of; put him in the ring with anyone and he wins the best 3 out of 5, or 4 out of 7. He wasn't unbeatable, but head to head he is probably the closest to it.

Lewis was the best in an era a only fair heavyweights.Would not have lasted against Ali, Liston, Frazier or Foreman. Those guys had to deal with one another, and much more formidible contenders than did Lewis. You have to remember that Lewis was flattened by one punch by mental patient Oliver McCall and the historically mediocre Hasim Rachman.Yeah he smashed Rachman to pieces in the rematch, but Rachman would have never troubled the top heavys of the 60's and 70's enough to get a rematch in the first place. Against the troubled McCall in the rematch, Lewis seemed unable to hurt the defenseless, blubbering McCall, who was stopped more from crying than Lewis's punches.
Lennox was a good heavyweight, not a great one.

i must disagree. i think the era in which lewis DOMINATED (which really speaks volumes as not all champions dominate their respective eras) was a historically underrated one. There were a lot of fine fighters in that time and I think it holds it's own with many of the 2nd tier eras such as the 80s, the 50s and the early 60s. The fact that he was sooooo spectacular fighting such a wide range of styles puts him at least in the top 10. Occasionally he skirts my top 5

I rank him #4 behind Ali, Louis and Mariciano.
In a fanasty tournment I'd pick him to win.

Lewis is one of my favorite fighters, and because of him I quit drinking. I used to have a beer every night to help me sleep and now I just put his greatest hits in the dvd and before I know it I'm out like a baby!:tired

I think more people are coming to appreciate Lewis as time goes on, especially with the current crop of heavyweights we're having to endure. Nothing against the Klitschkos but they have no decent opposition, the only heavyweight fight that would be worth watching is them fighting each other but thats never gonna happen. Lewis was the last of a great crop of heavyweights its just a shame that hasnt continued we need a great heavyweight to shake up the division.

Lewis is a top 5, maybe even top 3 ATG especially when considered head to head.

:happy Major props to the British, Canadian, Jamaican. Any country would be proud to call him their own. I was a huge fan after he knocked out Razor Ruddock.

All true. He only lost twice & he avenged them both. He also retired on top, unlike such greats as Holyfield & Tyson who he beats in any serious ATG rankings.
