Respected Columnist Dan Rafael: Kessler is a disgrace

I like Dan, too, and actually agree with him here, but he does take his opinions a bit too seriously sometimes.

And the Spinks thing, I just can't past it. How anyone covering the sport for a living could arrive at that conclusion blows my mind.

 

This is true. The way he went about the whole thing won't be easy to sell in America. He should not have said anything about Miranda...nothing at all, until after he signed the contract. The US networks won't forgive him for his move so easily...

 

A disgrace to boxing? Bull****.

Kessler has shown a willingness to fight the best, and even do it in their hometowns. So what if he pulled out against Miranda. He's going to face a much better fighter in Anthony Mundine, in a much more meaningful fight.

 

Kessler has always conducted his business so thoughtfully in the past (as far as I know). Perhaps this is a sign that mentally he's still recovering from being 'schooled' by Calzaghe. Some fighters never recover from a loss do they.

 

Better fighter or not, Kessler is going for the safer fight. There's nothing to prove by beating Mundine who has been inactive recently and Kessler has already beaten him.

 

Nah, come on...that is stretching that thought too far. Already immediately after his loss, Kessler has been targeting a fight against, in this order:

1. Calzaghe rematch
2. Pavlik
3. Taylor
4. Wright
5. Bute - IBF
6. Mundine - WBA
7. Big American name at 175
8. Some other big American name at 168...e.g. Miranda.

No surprise he took Mundine over Miranda...it was always his plan.

 

Regardless of whether he's beaten Mundine or not it's still a title fight and I dare say a title fight where he has a great chance of winning is at this stage of his career more important than a fight with Miranda

Prior to Phillips, he had him like No. 17 or something. Unreal.

 

Why is it unreal, Spinks is not garbage.

 

I do think less of Kessler now, he punked out, and as another poster or two already said, his mental toughness isnt all there, and feels a fight with Mundine is a safer bet at this point in his career, I do feel however, him ducking Miranda is going to stick with him for awhile.

 

I wonder what Legendary Trainer Emanuel Steward© thinks about this...

I donthink kessler is a disgrace, but I do consider Palle a disgrace. That's not just from this latest faux paux:nono His handling of the JC negoitiations were just as ****ed and it took forever to get him to play ball. At the very least Palle's "professionalism" is nonexistent.

I have no problems with either Miranda or Mundine and can understand Kessler wants a belt again. Perhaps then a Miranda fight can happen. I favor Kessler in either fight.

Clearly if Kessler is going to remain at 68? Mundine, Bute, Inkin vs Froch Winner, Taylor, Miranda, Lacy, Green and Pascal are names that would be in the mix.
