I like Porter as a character of the sport but Im not a fan of his style, his lack of pop and the way he crowds his work is painful to watch. Arguably his best win was a razor close victory over Devon Alexander and beating Malignaggi and Broner. He lost to brit Kell Brook a man who hasn't ever beaten anyone of note in a decade long career People talk up this guy and in the same breath mock Khan but Khan has the far superior cv and Khan bashed Alexander from pillar to post.
Admirable opponent but as you say he's a one trick pony although his fitness is remarkable, his resume will be filled with more names as he wont duck anyone and will probably be used as a fall guy
I agree with what you said about his style. He ****ed himself in that Thurman fight because of it and got his face bashed up by Brooks jab in his first loss. Brook hit him with the 1-2 all night. Shawn just kept leaping forward like a frog This content is protected
Why the hell did he fight GGG?those one twos and uppercuts from Brook are a delight to watch only he no business taking on Golovkin as he'd of beaten Vargas no messing
You could argue that he beat Thurman. There is a reason the crowd booed that decision. His pro resume isn't that great, but he damn near shut out Broner, knocked out Paulie (not that impressive) and did very well vs Thurman. He's at the top of the WW division. His amateur background is pretty good. He does actually have power. He may swarm you, but he generates a lot of force with his punches and doesn't smother them as much as people think he does, which isn't to say that he doesn't do that at all.
Money, the Vagas fight didn't go through and Golovkin is easy to work with. Brook is also draining himself a lot to make 147 and only stays there for the big fights and Golovkin is bigger than the fights he could get at 147 with the exception of Pacquiao. He also legitimately felt he could beat Golovkin.
Yeah true 50/50 fight that could of gone either way with no complaints,I think Porter should look to fight as often as he can this next year instead of taking on a big name straight a way,he's a top man also.
I think inactivity has to do with Haymon. He was in some video talking about the Thurman/Garcia fight but he seemed miffed that he doesn't have a fight scheduled. I'm not upset at the decision either. I've seen the fight a few times and have scored it both ways. I wish it wasn't a UD with all judges having the same score because I can't help but to feel that it was intentional, but I'm not mad at that decision at all.
