The hate probably comes from a nationalistic thing or the fact that he's so unconventional, but I gotta give it up to him!!! He truly is one of the greats of our time and probably all time. All of us Yanks should be greatfull to have had the opportunity to see such a spectacle. The guy's a beast with quick reflexes hands, relentlessness, and an incredible ability to recover. Sure Hops and Jones were a bit older, but he's been boxing actively for over a decade and seems to have only gotten stronger. So Big ups to Calzaghe and all his fans...you guys were right. :good

Before this fight, many boxers, journalists and such were all picking Roy Jones Jr and even said he's in the best physical condition he's been in since being back from Heavyweight.

Roy himself said he was in the best condition he's been in and that he was the most motivated he's ever been and that the ole "RJ" was back.

When people say "A win over Roy means nothing" - well, I agree, because I expected him to win, while expecting Roy to have his spots.

But sorry, due to the amount of people (Hopkins, Rafael, Kellerman, etc) all picking Roy Jones Jr to win, the way in which Calzaghe dominated him through every round except the first means the win meant something.

Good fighter. But there are tons of fighters that have down much more then he has in his career. Good, but nothing special.

I think Calzaghe is a bit of an ******* and an egomanic who spent a large part of his career fighting guys that were several levels below him. But that said, looking back on everything he has done and achived you have to give the guy credit and say he has had a very good career and for the he deserves the upmost respect from everyone who understands boxing.

Very few fighters in the modern era can claim to have been completely undisputed and to hold every title you can hold at a weight class.

Very few fighters can boast over 20 defenses.

Very few fighters can boast an undefeated record, despite 25 title fights.

There are many things Joe has done which makes him special, and even then, he's not done as much as he should have done with the talent he has.

Why he's still getting no credit for beating Hopkins cleanly (something no one but Jones Jr has done after Hoppy's first fight) is beyond me, considering how dominant Hopkins was against Winky, Tarver and Pavlik.

For years I didn't think much of Cal since he was dodging Ottka...but from Lacy on, he has finally taken on the big boys.

I thought Roy would be too old and he was....

And to mock a show boater and the way Cal did was just suburb.

IMO becausee Roy did his hands behind his back trick against a no body, no one had heard of until the Roy fight was one thing.

But to do that Showboating when Roy was super fresh, was absolutely great. And he did it twice inside of seconds.....now that was real nerve.
    That was disrespect Cubed.

    Against bums

Against bums. Maybe 2 fighters i've ever heard of out of the entire bunch. No fighters I would even classify as good, except maybe Kessler. Thats it.

Against bums. If Oscar, Mosley, Wright, Trinidad, Hopkins, Jones, Toney, Quartey fought the level of opposition Joe fought for most of his career, they'd be undefeated aswell. But they had balls, and chose to fight eachother in their primes. These are all special fighters. Fighters that are respected, not for some silly undefeated record that isnt anything but a series of numbers in reality.

Like what? You say he's done enough with the talent he has, but quite clearly he is very talented, yet his resume, his damn near no greater then 26 year old Chad Dawson. Whats special about it?

    Lets look

    Chad Dawson

    Adamek
    Tarver
    Johnson

    Calzaghe

    Kessler
    Hopkins
    Jones

    Not that different eh?

Cleanly? I believe most media outlets, ESPN, BBC, associated press, had Hopkins winning the fight.

    God, you're a ****ing ******.

85% of media had Calzaghe winning. 90% polled on Fight News had Calzaghe winning. Considering Hopkins ALWAYS has people thinking he's won, that's as clean as you're going to get.

Chad Dawson hasn't faced anywhere near the same level of competition over the same time frame.

Johnson pretty much beat Dawson, too. Adamek is over-rated and obviously weight drained, as he flew up to 190 straight after and very nearly lost against Paul Briggs (yeah, I know, who?)

Tarver, good win, but old opponent, going on your notion, that doesn't count.

Where as, Calzaghe? Below is a list of all the guys who were Top 10 by Ring Magazine at their weight class when Calzaghe beat them

    Eubank
    Reid
    Mitchell
    Mkertchian
    Veit
    Bika
    Kessler
    Woodhall
    Starie
    Lacy
    Manfredo
    Hopkins
    Jones Jr
    McIntyre
    Sheika

15 Ring Top 10 fighters at the time of the fight.. he was also an underdog according to the bookies in...

    Eubank, Reid, Mitchell and Lacy.

And was even money with Woodhall and Starie.

And hell, tell me.. who are Oscar's young undefeated champions that he beat in the midst of their prime while he was in his late 30s? Hopkins can boast Pavlik.

Delusional states of mind should really seek doctor attention - you need professional help.

Polled lol? 85% of the media? Sorry, the 3 most important media outlets that judge boxing, all had Hopkins winning. I had Calzaghe winning, but its nothing to gloat about, he certainly didnt beat Hopkins like Roy beat Hopkins. He just outworked Hopkins, he didnt really land anything. Clean? Far from it.

Please. Shot and scheduled the fight on 2 weeks notice.
Average. Joe nearly lossed this one.
    Who?
    Who?
    Who?
Who? A contender star? Like Manfredo lol?
    Good.
    Who?
    Who?
    Scrub
    Scrub
Good win over a faded Hopkins.
    Shot
    Who?
    Who?

Omg! not former Ring top 10 fighters. How many of them were titlists? How many were in the top 5? How many of them ever accomplished one thing of significance?after their loss?

    Shot. Average. Who? Scrub.

    Who? Who?

Genero Hernadez. Miguel Angel Gonzalez. Ike Quartey. Also, he fought Pernell Whitaker and Julius Cesar Chavez.

He also fought undefeated Shane Mosley, Tito Trinidad, Felix Sturm and Floyd Mayweather in his career.

You see, thats what a special career is. The Calzaghe resume you listed, not even worth looking at twice.

I must say, at the end of the fight..... I did not know who won that fight between Cal and Hopkins, and I have been watching fights over 55 years.

when you have your rose colored glasses on you see what you want to see, and disregard the rest.
And No I was not a big Hopkins fan....nor was I a fan of Cal.
So I got to watch it more relatively unenvolved...I'd not put my ass out on a line here saying some one was going to whip ass either.

I saw Norton winning the last round...it took a couple of decades and watching that last round 5 times before I could nod for Ali. But then I did not like Clay since Moore...and that was a real tight fight.

Any of you who saw Cal easily winning had rose colored glasses on. It was a tight fight.
