Wow. Joe was a great guy and offered a lot to the boxing community. Sad to hear that he lost his battle with cancer but he put up one hell of a fight for the last 7 or 8 years. He was one of the best boxing writers we had......which are a lot harder to come by these days. RIP Joe.
He was a wonderful calming influence on here when opinions went nuclear, he was def the wise old daddie of the classic, a crusher that he's gone. He was one of the very few on here that I deeply & honestly respected, he'd seen it. done it, & been there. Sadly missed.
While I remain saddened over the loss of this great human being, I am heartened by all the great tributes made on his behalf. Clearly his impact on people is to be remembered for a long, long time. RIP my Friend ...
I haven't been around here much since it changed to BoxingNews24 and didn't hear about John Garfields passing and it has genuinely saddened me. He was a very friendly, respectful and classy guy who always took the time to respond to others and took an interest in what others, way less knowledgable than he was, had to say. I always loved reading his posts and his brilliant first hand accounts and anecdotes of boxing legends and characters. His good natured humour and personality will be badly missed. RIP Joe.
Well, guess what, "Joe" took first place at the BWAA Writing Awards last week. http://www.bwaa.us/2014/04/11/2013-bernie-winners/#more-705 Scroll down to Boxing Feature over 1750. Joe got me a plaque. Even from the back of beyond he's still influential.
On November 7, 2013 the Boxing community lost one of its TRUE GENTLEMEN; Joe Rein. Joe Rein was a staple at ESB/BN24 under the username: John Garfield. Read Joe Rein's boxing stories: http://home.earthlink.net/~joerein/ Memorable Ten Count in Joe's honor: [yt]IQd57MoY57c[/yt] REST IN PEACE JOE REIN

I miss him too. His knowledge and his recollections used to fascinate me. I'd have done anything to have shared a few hours in his company. RIP.
