RIP Joe Rein. One of the finest men in boxing. A great writer, teacher, friend and man. Came up in the gyms under Ray Robinson and was a staple of the Wild Card. God Bless him.
I was just saying on another sight how he would refuse to talk to you about fighters he hadn't seen from ringside, but how he never made you feel small or anything when he did it. Lovely guy, just the nicest guy.
It was funny how he just kept on posing in the esb lounge no matter what happened there But he didn't seem the type.
I always hugely enjoyed reading his offerings whenever I stumbled across them. He was the best poster on here by quite some distance IMO. They really don't breed them like him anymore. Those old school dudes had class and character in spades and no one knows how to tell a story like they do. He was the personification of all of that and some and I always got the impression from reading his posts that he was an absolute gentleman and a lovely person too. RIP.
Yeah. Never in the 'pee in her butt' or race-baiting type fray, however - and he deftly played it like he was hardly even aware of all that stuff while selectively joining in on topics you could tell your grand-folks about. :yep
Great guy. At first I was a bit suspicious about his personable manners... But when someone keeps it up for a couple of years, it's safe to assume they are in fact very pleasant human beings.
never knew he was a well respected bloke just thought he was a random but very good poster , sad to hear and will miss his post RIP fellow esb user
Genuinely gutted to hear that, he was an absolutely amazing poster on here. Some of his stories were incredible and he seemed like a top guy to boot. Doubt we'll be lucky enough to get anyone who has such a first hand insight into the legendary fights and fighters on here again - he knew Sugar Ray Robinson! RIP JG
