Very sad news. Mr. Rein always had the time to discuss boxing. It was a true passion. I'll always remember him talking on the phone with me about the old time fighters, and making the past come alive to me as a fan. It is something I'll always remember and treasure.
    RIP Joe.

Very nice man. I didn't converse with him very often, but he held himself to a higher standard than the others here. And not in a snooty way, just a good-guy way. Rest in peace Joe, you were a really good guy and you will be missed.

It's a terrible loss for boxing and the boxing forums. You know, one can watch a million fights but without the proper context, a lot of the meaning of these old-time fights and pro's is lost. John was our window that gave us a look into another time and place. He saw the boxing world through more experienced, more seasoned eyes, and we were privileged enough for him to allow us a glimpse.
He was a real font of knowledge and a hell of a story teller. And also one of the nicest, most polite people I've ever encountered on the forums. Never saw him say a bad word to anybody.

Rest in peace John, and thanks for the memories. It's been a pleasure.

That's awful. Not only did he have a wealth of boxing knowledge but he was a great storyteller - that's what made his contributions on here so great.

From some of his posts in the lounge, it sounds like he lived a hell of a life.

    This is truly sad news.

John Garfield was an irreplaceable treasure trove of memories, knowledge, and one of the true gentlemen of this forum.

My thoughts at this time are with his family.
