Terrible news. I only knew him as a poster on this site, but what an addition to the site he was. A tremendous boxing fan, and by the sound of it, a real good human being. Quite right, frank. :good
Again Rest and Sleep well JG, your friend Jim... how old was John/Joe anyway, I figured he was at least in his 70s but perhaps more?
RIP John. Truly one of the great benefits of the internet is being able to tap into the knowledge and experiences of guys like JG. Was a pleasure reading his posts.
Once, while I was being facetious, having thought JG knew that I jokingly went off the rails here and there, I told everyone on some classic thread not to listen to him because he wasn't the real John Garfield, the famous actor, who had died a long time ago and was therefore an imposter, not to be trusted. It was just a silly, offhand remark, assumed to be transparent for being just that. This must have caught him just so for him to think otherwise. Joe was really disturbed by this, took it completely seriously, and PM'd me to show me himself standing next to Pacquiao and his story and everything, that he was legit and wasn't even trying to pretend he was John Garfield-who was Joe's favourite actor. It really bothered him that I thought (I didn't, again) he was an imposter, on a site full of guys with handles of different fighters and famous people. He was a sweet guy, showed to never want to really upset anyone on here or put them down if they disagreed, even extremely. I'm very sad to see him go but I'm also glad he's no longer sick. He was very ill for quite some time, as I understand it. I'll miss seeing him on. A gentleman among gentlemen, was J.
Terrible news, whenever you were scrolling through a thread and saw his name on the left hand side you knew it was going to be a good post. RIP.
